Communicating the concepts of corona virus prevention to children under six years of age is a thorny issue for parents who find themselves facing an issue that requires them to educate children about a number of preventive matters to address this virus without creating any negative reaction.
Dr. Sawsan Sheikh Mahmoud, head of the psychological counseling department at the College of Education at Al-Baath University in Homs, said: “Parents are the first example of a child’s behavior, so it is self-evident that the child imitates his parents with their behaviors” explaining that the child can be taught and trained in healthy habits to maintain his personal hygiene with Clarifying the results of those habits on the child's health and shape in proportion to the level of awareness, thinking and imagination of the child and the positive reinforcement of this behavior, which makes it a daily habit.
She stressed the importance of not exaggerating these health practices and behaviors so that the matter does not turn into a kind of obsessive-compulsive disorder, considering that the goal is to alert the child and give him the correct behaviors of his personal hygiene and not create a platform for the emergence of psychological disorders in his later stages of life.
In turn, Dr. Muhannad Ibrahim, a faculty member at the College of Education at Al-Baath University, pointed out that there are several factors that affect the child’s acceptance of how to deal with this virus, including the child’s psychological state, age, emotional or mood status, and most importantly, how parents deal with the child with regard to concepts of prevention from this virus In a correct way and close to reality.
He mentioned that the home ban may produce some psychological effects on the child and may cause the emergence of some problems such as feeling bored, lonely and anxious, calling in this area to involve the child in doing some household chores, including arranging the house in an artistic manner or preparing food or making some kind of sweets, which makes him feel his presence And its importance.
He indicated that it is a purposeful thing that causes the child to acquire positive behaviors, allocating corners at home to play sports and games on a daily basis, working on following lessons and homework at certain times, and avoiding reprimanding children or increasing the issuance of orders and encouraging them to talk about their feelings and thoughts.
Dr. Maha Ibrahim, Head of the Child Education Department at the College of Education at Al-Baath University, touched on the practical steps that were adopted in the Child Education Department with its two divisions, a class teacher and kindergarten, where the practical section was devoted to covering the concepts of dealing with the Corona virus and its prevention and awareness to limit its spread, including school library material Which students were asked to complete educational instructional boards, booklets for children, short stories and material for school activities, which students were assigned to carry out various educational, educational, cultural, sports, artistic, informational and health activities directed to children.
In the subject of professional education, Ibrahim mentioned that students were assigned professional work to learn, teach, and fill free time, including recycling of household materials and paper. In the subjects of educational media, health education and child health, students were assigned to complete a children's magazine with a variety of content and educational videos on how to prevent epidemics and create awareness boards and illustrations. To prevent diseases and take care of public health, but in the child theater and puppet theater material, students have been assigned short local theater plays at home level with an educational content directed to the child.
