Usually the webcam shows the ski slope at the Predigtstuhl including the lift. But when a user wanted to find out about the current weather there, he suddenly ended up in a living room.

  • The Predigtstuhl Arena is a small ski area in Sankt Englmar in the Bavarian Forest.
  • A webcam usually takes live pictures of the slope - but suddenly it showed a living room. Posted on yodel , the picture went viral.
  • Upon request, operator Martin Six can clarify: "These are not corona recordings."

Sankt Englmar is actually a well-known winter sports area in the Bavarian Forest . But at the beginning of May, the Predigtstuhl Arena ski area in the Lower Bavarian town attracted attention in a completely different way. The webcam , which normally shows the ski slope of the Predigtstuhl Arena ski area, suddenly took completely different pictures and put them live on the Internet.

User baff: ski area camera from Sankt Englmar suddenly shows living room - "No corona shots"

A user who said he only wanted to find out about the weather suddenly landed live in a living room last week (May 2) . At times there were mother and daughter on a sofa. Particularly precarious: The two of them apparently had no idea that their pictures were being streamed live online.

Mountain webcam suddenly streams living room pictures from Sankt Englmar - user seeks advice on yodelling

The user was surprised and at a loss. Seeking help, he posted the picture on Jodel with the addition: "If the mountain webcam shows a living room ..." The photo went viral immediately. The users were fascinated and scared at the same time. Because still none of the people who were photographed by the camera in that living room seemed to have a pale glimpse of it.

"Almost worthy of a crime scene" - users watch family on webcam who knows nothing about it - the police are turned on

Various theories have been thrown into the room, from a hacker attack on a laptop camera to a malfunction. A user speculates that the webcam was removed for repair and taken home. "That is worthy of a crime scene," another user writes. However, many users just want to help people and point out what is happening there.

Living room images from mountain webcam: ski area operator Martin Six receives many calls and emails

Even the police are turned on. At Predigtstuhl Arena operator Martin Six, various emails and calls quickly open. "Even the police called," Six recalls. Fortunately, the ski lift boss immediately knows what the problem is.

The repair theory of one yodel user was actually correct. "The webcam was broken." Six took it home. "We then tried it out in the living room." Of course, the family was not aware that the webcam was doing its job again.

"We had no idea that the camera came online." Six can now laugh about it too. "It's not corona," he quips.

After receiving information from all over Bavaria, Six was able to quickly end the involuntary live stream from within his own four walls. Mother and daughter are not resentful either, he says.

It is now clear what the camera is missing: "The cable was broken." The damage will soon be fixed. And within the next few weeks, the camera will send its usual pictures from the sermon chair again.

And maybe the camera and the idyllic ski area have won a few more fans in Bavaria through their involuntary PR campaign, who are already looking forward to the next winter.
