Rosario and the soccer world still accuse the death blow of Tomás Felipe Carlovich, a 74-year-old legend who had his bicycle taken from him and beaten like another victim at a junction known for that type of outburst. The alleged murderer was charged this Sunday with " homicide on the occasion of robbery " from the recording of a security camera showing part of the sequence.

Juan Ángel Maidana was arrested on Friday, after the death of the Central Córdoba idol. He is 32 years old, denied the accusation against him during the hearing that was carried out by videoconference and said that he is engaged in surgery .

"He said he had been carrying out this activity," prosecutor Georgina Pairola specified when they pointed out him as the person who last Wednesday afternoon knocked down "El Trinche" when he was pedaling at the intersection of Eva Perón and Paraná.

"Bocacha", as they identified him after his capture, wanted to escape from the Police when they found him in a vacant lot in Lima and Tucumán. It was his second arrest in less than 24 hours, as he had also been arrested the night before.

From the Public Prosecutor's Office (MPA) they explained that Thursday's raids in the area where the suspect lives did not aim to find the author of the robbery, but to recover Carlovich's bicycle, which they are still looking for as key evidence.

Maidana was that night among the four delayed a few blocks from the site where the former footballer fell, but they finally released him while the victim was still in serious condition at the Clemente Álvarez Emergency Hospital (Heca).

The evidence against him came later , when those in charge of the case obtained the first of several videos taken by cameras in that sector of the western zone.

Two eyewitnesses provided a description compatible with the images of the thief who stood next to "El Trinche" as he approached the corner. Although he wore a chinstrap and a cap, the clothing worn by the attacker is similar to that which was seized in the second raids, with his sights set on "Bocacha".

Pairola explained that they arrived at the accused after consulting with the intelligence area of the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC), which since March has been working to clarify multiple thefts of this type in the sector with a list of suspects who "exceeds" the current protagonist.

The prosecutor of the Doloso Homicide unit admitted that some doubts persist about the mechanics of the event. The truth is that Carlovich fell twice when he was intercepted . "The first blow is not the determining factor," said the head of the investigation.

According to forensic reports, the former player from Rosario suffered the fatal injury when he collapsed backwards and his head hit the pavement. They did not attack him with a blunt object, but he could have suffered a blow or a push that made him lose his balance.

After the hearing, judge Alejandro Negroni ordered that the accused remain in effective preventive detention for the period of law.

Simultaneously, the MPA initiated a second investigation regarding the dismissal of "El Trinche" on the field of Central Córdoba. Spokesmen for the MPA warned that "clearly there was a violation of the quarantine " when Uruguayan fans went to the stadium this Saturday to see the passing of the funeral procession, which entered the playing field for several minutes to applause and chants from the audience.

As the first person in charge of controlling that the isolation is fulfilled, the Police formally replied that it did not intervene because it was not aware of any call for the tribute.

Thus, new measures were requested to establish what crimes may have been committed around the last goodbye, something that many other people could not do when losing loved ones during the pandemic.
