"How to avoid the crowd on public transport?"

2020-05-11T12:33:17.488Z

Traffic is lightened but a major concern remains: how many people will return to work from this Monday?

While the deconfinement started on Monday, several practical questions remain unanswered. Heidi, a surfer, wonders: "How will transport be organized in Île-de-France from May 11 so as not to create crowds? "

This resumption of transport is a point that questions many French people, and for good reason, while 12 million trips are usually listed every day in Île-de-France, "social distancing is not feasible in such a dense network" , conceded the president of RATP in our pages.

This Monday, for example, depending on the metro or RER lines, there were times a lot of people on the platforms or in the trains… Even if on the whole this first day of deconfinement went rather well .

In order to avoid an excessive influx of users who had to return to work physically on Monday, the Ile-de-France transport authority had announced that it only planned to provide 75% of the service. For its part, the SNCF expects 50 to 60% of suburban trains.

A fine of 135 euros without certificate during rush hour

But a major unknown remains: how many of the 96% of Ile-de-France residents who have deserted them for almost two months will take the RER, metro, tram or bus from Monday? This is the reason why the Minister of Transport Elisabeth Borne announced Thursday that during peak hours (from 6:30 am to 9:30 am and from 4 pm to 7 pm), access to public transport in Ile-de-France would be only intended for "people holding a certificate from their employer or with a compelling reason to travel".

Among these reasons are those related to the health of oneself or one's loved ones, the accompaniment of children, as well as the summons of justice. Without this document, the fine will be 135 euros, after a phase of tolerance the first days.

In order to filter these flows, RATP law enforcement officers will be mobilized. Finally, remember that wearing a mask is now compulsory in all public transport in the country, under penalty, again, of being punished.
