Kassel - Bali has been the new home of Instagram blogger Laura Scheffczyk from Kassel for almost two years . The Instagram blogger, who was born in Bad Arolsen-Mengeringhausen (Waldeck-Frankenberg district), is currently stranded in Thailand. In the interview, she talks about how the 27-year-old is experiencing the corona crisis there and how the pandemic will change travel.

Corona in Thailand: Travel for Instagram blogger from Kassel not possible due to Corona

Laura, did you plan trips that you had to cancel due to the corona virus?

I had planned some trips, including paid trips and collaborations to the Himalayas and Tunisia. That is postponed. I am benefiting from the fact that I do not particularly like to plan long in advance when it comes to my trips. My job allows me to spontaneously pack my suitcase tomorrow and fly to the other end of the world. However, it was planned to come to Europe in April and stay the summer. Then I would have visited my grandmother in Mengeringhausen for the first time since I started my own business a year and a half ago. But I think that will definitely happen this year.

Corona in Thailand: Instagram blogger from Kassel feels safe

You are currently in Thailand. How long will you stay there and how free can you move?

I have been here since January, actually only one or two months were planned. I have to say that I felt very uncomfortable at the time when the number of infected people in Germany increased. We Germans actually have a very privileged passport, but more and more countries in the area have imposed entry stops on other countries, and among them Italy and Germany were at the top. I traveled from Cambodia to Thailand in early March and had a queasy feeling that I might not be allowed to enter Germany.

But I now feel safe here and think that much is easier than it would be in Germany. The big shopping malls are closed, but cafes and restaurants are open and almost all of them offer a pickup, delivery service via social media or various delivery apps. You can move around freely, there is only a curfew between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. I think I'll stay here until the situation calms down a bit.

Is there a safety distance and is it mandatory to wear a face mask?

To be honest, Corona was an issue here before it arrived in Germany. That was in January, and since then there is a disinfection dispenser and security staff at every entrance who hold a clinical thermometer to everyone's forehead. Mouthguards have been worn since January, but this is generally not as unusual in Asia as maybe in Germany.

In the elevator of my apartment building there are disposable cotton swabs to press the buttons for the floor, and in restaurants chairs are usually set up in rows of two with a safety distance of two meters. Everything was relatively well organized right from the start.

Corona crisis in Thailand: No loss of sales for Instagram blogger from Kassel

Does the virus mean a loss of sales for you?

I see this with many influencers and bloggers, since many companies in the travel industry have cut the marketing budget. But I have multiple online income streams, so it doesn't matter to me anymore. I even have more to do than before, because I also support companies and the self-employed with their social media presence and people who want to build a second pillar online. Both are very much in demand at the moment.

Do you remember Tomb Raider? ⠀⠀ ◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦ ⠀⠀ When I was walking through the temple at dawn, I had a short throwback into my youth. ⠀⠀ I've been booted here long ago, 10 years ago and virtually! ⠀⠀ It's hard to believe that after I had a steep gamer career at the age of 11-17 and was constantly running around like a cellar child, I still became something. ⠀⠀ Hah, funny fact: ätte If I had been asked earlier what I wanted to be later, I would probably have said “computer game tester”. ⠀⠀ I could never have imagined traveling around the world permanently, let alone leaving my room and my computer. ⠀⠀ I was only average at school because I was generally not interested in what was said there and I preferred to think about things like "Why does that actually mean" bread "and not" banana "? Or how I can optimize my times so that I can gamble after school for as long as possible before my mum comes home from work. ⠀⠀ If I look back now and reflect on my behavior patterns from before, then I know exactly why the normal daily routine and 9-5 was not enough for me! ⠀⠀ Angkor Wat is definitely worth a trip and catapulted me personally back to my youth. ⠀⠀ ❓ What did you want to be in the past? ⠀⠀ ◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦◦ ⠀⠀ For your trip to Cambodia.

How do you personally deal with Corona, are you worried about your health?

Not much has changed for me since I communicate with customers and private contacts online. I'm not worried about my health, I just stick to the rules. There is no point in sitting at home and imagining what could happen. One should try to make good use of the time.

Corona in Thailand: Instagram blogger from Kassel reports - "Tourism industry suffers"

What will long-distance travel look like in the future?

It is an exciting question. I think we will generally appreciate it more, but I also think that normality will return to this topic. The only question is when. I hope that everything calms down quickly, because in many countries in Southeast Asia many people live exclusively from tourism. And these countries are not so well positioned that they can support small businesses financially. Many hotel employees are fired. I have been observing for weeks that meals are served free of charge here at the temples because people can no longer afford to eat.

Carefree long-distance travel will not exist in 2020. For the time afterwards, you should consider whether you should not even book a small, family-run hotel for the next trip and not a large all-inclusive hotel bunker. What I very much hope is that certain hygiene measures will be maintained when traveling and flying. For example, that everyone washes their hands at regular intervals.
