(CNN Spanish) - Alexandra Ocles resigned on Monday to the leadership of the Ecuadorian Risk Management Service after the Prosecutor's Office began an investigation into a possible price premium on the purchase of 7,000 food kits amid the health emergency due to the covid -19.

Ocles defended his work in his resignation letter, insisted that the process of buying the food kits was made "in accordance with the norm," and emphasized that his resignation is for "the well-being of Ecuadorians."

In the communication, Ocles maintains that her team "watched over every step" of the purchase process, and that she herself asked the State Comptroller's Office to "review it."

On his Twitter account, President Lenín Moreno reported that he accepted the resignation of the official and appointed Rommel Salazar as the new general director of Risk Management.

The Prosecutor's Office reported on Friday the raid on the offices of the Risk Management Service due to allegations of alleged overpricing in the purchase of the 7,000 food kits.

The kits would have a referential price of US $ 86, but they would have been purchased for US $ 150 each, because it includes the individual packaging that, according to Ocles, is "hermetic, reusable and waterproof" so that food is protected.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, Ocles would have signed a purchase contract for US $ 1,055,740.

The judicial institution indicated that it will continue with the proceedings "to determine whether or not there are irregularities."

According to the now ex-employee, the kit acquisition process was done transparently and under adequate quality, packaging, conservation and transportation standards. He added that the contract has not been paid and that the products have not been received either.

The Office of the Comptroller General of the State reported on the initiation of a special examination of the process of acquiring the 7,000 kits for the care of people affected by the pandemic. The control institution requested the unit prices of the products.

The examination, according to the Comptroller's Office, aims to "verify that these operations were carried out in accordance with current regulations" and respecting the efficiency in the use of public money.
