(CNN Spanish) - The political strategist Juan José Rendón presented his letter of resignation from the position of general strategist of the presidential Committee that he exercised in the team of Juan Guaidó, president of the National Assembly of Venezuela and recognized as interim president by more than 50 countries . As reported on Monday, the Guaidó press team accepted his resignation and "thanked him for his dedication and commitment to Venezuela."

In the letter released by the Guaidó team, Rendón ratified his support "for the democratic cause" and called on "all national and international sectors to strengthen support for the interim president and the need to form a national emergency government such as the only real way to save Venezuela from an unprecedented catastrophe. In an interview with CNN, Rendón said last week that he signed a preliminary agreement with the idea of exploring whether several members of the Maduro government who are being prosecuted or who have arrest warrants could be captured and brought to justice. However, he assures that this agreement did not become effective and that they decided to ignore those who would execute the operation, so he considers that the information that has come to light by the government of Nicolás Maduro has been manipulated and misrepresented.

"It was never in the interest of the Commission or any of its members to participate in violent activities, much less illegal or linked to characters claimed by the justice system and with pending accounts in various countries," Rendón said in the resignation letter.

The Venezuelan Attorney General's Office announced this Friday that it will request, through Interpol, the extradition of Rendón from the United States, suspected of signing a contract for an operation that, according to the government, was aimed at the overthrow of the questioned President Nicolás Maduro.

Another of those who submitted his resignation, in his case to the post of presidential high commissioner of Strategy for the crisis, was Sergio Vergara, also a deputy from San Cristóbal to the National Assembly by Popular Will. Vergara published the resignation letter on his Twitter account, in which, although he acknowledges that he was with Rendón "dedicated to the assessment of scenarios and possibilities", he denied having knowledge of the so-called Operation Gideon.
