Yesterday (10th), some netizens launched "He SING" and "Mother's Day Street" to sing anti-modification songs and call slogans in many shopping malls in Hong Kong. After nightfall, demonstrators gathered in Mong Kok and later evolved into conflict. The police issued a statement today (11th) that, starting from yesterday afternoon, demonstrators gathered and shouted slogans in shopping malls in various districts of Hong Kong and Kowloon, suspecting of violating the "Prevention and Control of Diseases (Prohibition of Group Gathering) Regulations" ("Regulations ") (Chapter 599G) stipulates that group gatherings of more than 8 persons are prohibited in public places. The police condemned the demonstrators for ignoring the government's relevant laws to prevent and control the epidemic, and participating in or organizing the gathering of prohibited groups.

Police said they were surrounded before they used pepper ball guns

At about 4 pm yesterday, the police found that there was a gathering in a shopping arcade on Prince Edward Road West, Mong Kok. It was suspected that someone had violated the Regulations to participate in or organize a prohibited group to gather. The police arrived to persuade the gatherers to leave, but after repeated warnings were invalid, they launched the dispersal operation. During this period, a large number of people surrounded the police. The police used the pepper ball gun once after the warning was invalid.

Subsequently, the police stopped a number of demonstrators at the mall and seized suspected raw materials for petrol bombs, including electric oil, towels and lighters, on a 22-year-old man suspected of "possibly possessing tools for illegal purposes" and "Tibetan Poison" was arrested. The police did not rule out that someone attempted to use related items in the demonstrations, seriously endangering the safety of those present. As of last night, demonstrators continued to gather in Mong Kok, during which people blocked roads and burned roadblocks with debris.

Summons "Restriction Order" issued to 19 people

The police pointed out that as of 12:00 noon today (11th), the police issued fixed penalty notices to 19 people who violated the Regulations in all districts of Hong Kong. In addition, the police arrested a total of about 230 people, aged between 12 and 65 years old, involved in crimes including illegal assembly, possession of tools for illegal purposes, possession of any items intended to destroy or damage property, possession of offensive weapons, possession of drugs 1. Misconduct in public places, obstructing police officers from performing their duties, attacking police officers, and failing to produce identification documents, etc.

The police emphasized that in the severe period of the epidemic, any group gathering may increase the risk of virus spread, and appealed to the public not to participate in any prohibited group gathering. The police will not tolerate any illegal behavior and will strictly enforce the law.
