A new era has begun in the town hall of Bernried after the departure of Josef Steigenberger: Georg Malterer (non-partisan free electoral group) now directs the fortunes of the monastery community as mayor. It is a seamless transition. Steigenberger and his successor have always enjoyed a close relationship of trust.

Bernried - "I came in and started working. It wasn't a new feeling at all. ”It sounds rather sober and pragmatic, as Georg Malterer describes his first day as mayor. But Malterer is not just a novice in the town hall of Bernried. As the third mayor, he was already responsible for the municipal building committee in the past parliamentary term. In this role he was in close contact with the town hall employees - as well as with Josef Steigenberger. Malterer was considered the political drawing son of the future mayor. It was no surprise that he would follow in his footsteps. "I enjoy my work right from the start", Malterer sums up his first days as mayor: "It is the first time in my professional life that I do not need a round of introductions with my employees. I know everyone. ”Of course Malterer is also well prepared for the topic:“ Josef Steigenberger was always transparent and involved me at an early stage. ”The new town hall manager is currently gaining an overview of the detailed knowledge - among other things, he has already paid a visit to the building yard.

And the paths to Steigenberger are still short. "It is a luxury that I can ask him a lot. I don't envy any of my colleagues who don't have that, ”emphasizes Malterer. The father of two, peu á peu, also wants to grow into Steigenberger's networks, which go all the way to the Bavarian state government. Incidentally, there is still a stack of documents on the desk that Steigenberger should process. "Little or nothing has changed in the office," says Malterer with a smile. But that only means the optical design. The doctorate in biology, who worked for TÜV Südbayern until April 30, speaks of a "gentle start" when he takes office, but he has clear ideas about how he would like to carry out the post of mayor - namely emphatically close to the citizen.

It would have been his wish to present himself officially as Mayor of the May Day and to start a conversation with the villagers. Unfortunately, that fell flat because of the Corona crisis. But Malterer would like to attach great importance to communication and regular exchange with the citizens: "I want to know what is important to people." The mayor is also striving for "constructive cooperation" for the new municipal council. In the run-up to the constituent meeting, which will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, he has already sat down with all of the political groups. "In terms of subject matter, the approved budget strongly dictates how things will go on," explains Malterer.

This includes, among other things, the creation of a provisional extension quarters for daycare. "We need a solution that will keep us afloat in the short term," Malterer announced. As a location for a “container crib”, the town hall plateau above the underground car park is under discussion - although Malterer does not want to overuse the term “container”: “This should look visually appealing,” says the new mayor.
