Elon Musk had insulted the restrictions on going out in Alameda County as "fascist" and threatened to relocate the company. Now the Tesla founder goes one step further and acts against instructions.
Palo Alto (dpa) - Tesla boss Elon Musk wants to start up the main plant in California immediately and thus escalates his dispute with the authorities about corona restrictions.
Musk will be on the production line himself, Musk wrote on Twitter. "If someone is arrested, I'll ask that it's just me."
Alameda County, where the Tesla plant in Fremont is located, continues to have exit restrictions to prevent the spread of the corona virus. Tesla had filed a lawsuit against it over the weekend - and Musk had threatened to move the headquarters of the electric car manufacturer from California to Texas or Nevada, for example.
California Governor Gavon Newsom had promised to resume production in the coming week, shortly before Musk's tweet.
Musk had downplayed the risk of coronavirus right from the start, calling the Alameda County restrictions on going out last week as "fascist." The vast majority of Tesla vehicles are built in Fremont, while production in the new second plant in China is just starting up.
