The fans mourn Roy Horn far beyond Las Vegas. The world-famous magician died on Friday at the age of 75 - from a corona infection. He was in mortal danger 15 years ago when he looked for medical help in Bad Heilbrunn after a tiger bite.

Bad Heilbrunn - A band of photographers hid behind the hedges on Abt-Walther-Weg, while camera teams from all over Germany positioned themselves in front of the Leonardis Clinic there. Bad Heilbrunn had never experienced such a media casserole as in June 2005 - and should never experience it again. A major German tabloid had raised the red alarm in the private clinic when it published photos of the arrival of the great magic stars at Munich Airport. Roy Horn, who had been critically injured by a tiger almost two years earlier during a show, hoped for medical help together with his partner Siegfried Fischbacher. At the time, stars like Farrah Fawcett, Eric Clapton, George Hamilton and the singer and actress Cher were treated in the promic clinic. They all provided a touch of Hollywood in the tranquil Loisach Valley.

After the Tiger Bite, Roy Horn hoped for help in the Heilbrunn clinic

The linchpin of the promic clinic, which is popular in Europe and overseas, was chief physician Dr. Dr. Albert Scheller. The doctor, pharmacist and chemist combined conventional medicine therapies with naturopathy such as hyperthermia and aloe vera - primarily for pancreatic cancer and for patients who had already been given up by conventional medicine, according to the then managing director of the clinic, Gerd Rudolphi. Scheller's good contacts with American doctor colleagues ensured full beds in Heilbrunn. "He had been in constant contact with the duo since the magician's stay in the clinic and wanted to check with Roy Horn in autumn 2005," reported managing director Rudolphi at the time. The prominent doctor died in autumn 2005 at the age of 60, completely unexpectedly, during his visit to Las Vegas. He suffered a heart attack. He was found dead in the hotel room.

A touch of Hollywood in the Loisach Valley: Cher, Eric Clapton, George Hammilton and Co.

The clinic had caused a sensation earlier when the controversial cancer doctor Nikolaus Klehr was treating seriously ill patients there - among other things with a banned Russian medicine smuggled into Germany. This chapter ended in 2000.

The eventful history of the clinic will be over in the foreseeable future with the demolition of the building. In the meantime, asylum seekers were accommodated there. After that, assisted living was planned for a short time.

The magician Roy Horn was visibly better after his stay in Bad Heilbrunn in 2005. The pop diva Cher had reported in the gossip columns: "Roy was on the verge of death, and now he can play table tennis again." Cher also recommended her actor colleague Farrah Fawcett treatment in Heilbrunn.
