It is not always easy to make children aware of what it means to live a pandemic: not going out, not staying with friends, not being able to go to the park, or being able to hug grandparents if they can go see them. Nor is it easy to convince them of the importance of the security measures that they, or their parents, must have. That of having to wash your hands carefully every so often, change your clothes every time you go out to the street to do it again when you return, wear gloves or a mask, an accessory that is already part of our day-to-day ... and yours .

The makers of Brillindolls dolls, from Alicante, have been aware of this reality and have wanted to contribute to that awareness by doing what they do best: toys. This is how the warriors against COVID-19 were born , a collection of dolls dressed as toilets, with a mask included, so that children see that even toys must take care of themselves against the virus. The idea was from José Antonio Castro, owner of Brillindolls. Although the origin was even more altruistic: “As soon as we found out about the shortage of medical supplies, we wanted to help. First we offered to make masks and gowns. But we did not have the necessary health certificates. So we decided to do what we know best, which is precisely what we have infrastructure for. "

As their interest was not lucrative, but to contribute to the improvement of the conditions of the toilets, they contacted Médicos del Mundo to establish a solidary collaboration with them. "We chose Doctors of the World for their careers, but also because they work in more than 19 countries and, in this way, our collaboration could go where it is necessary," says Castro. It is the NGO that is in charge of using the money raised.

From Médicos del Mundo they welcomed the idea with great enthusiasm. Susana Atienza, director of Recruitment and Marketing of the organization tells it: "From the beginning we loved the idea because these dolls are a tribute and recognition to all the health personnel who day by day fight this disease from their jobs in hospitals , health centers ... They are a perfect vehicle to make visible and explain to boys and girls the value of the work of all these people and how important it is for the whole of society that we abide by the hygienic-sanitary norms that indicate us The authorities. For example, the recommendation of the use of masks to prevent contagion from continuing to occur ”and that the wrists themselves are wearing.

But in addition, it is going to help them obtain financing destined “to the response that we are making to the emergency in Spain. This response includes, on the one hand, basic attention in health and food issues to people from excluded groups in our country, such as the homeless, immigrants and refugees, people living in slums, women victims of trafficking, etc. On the other hand, establishing infection protection and control systems to protect healthcare personnel in hospitals, ”says Atienza.

And all this with the added bonus that dolls, thanks to their appearance, “can contribute to breaking gender stereotypes, show the diversity of a profession as vocational as that of healthcare personnel made up of doctors and nurses, but also nurses, assistants nurses, caretakers and caretakers ... professionals dedicated to serving others.

Indeed, dolls do not have a clear definition of gender. And you can choose dressed in different colors (blue, white, purple and green), there are long and short hair, straight and curly, blonde and brown. This idea responded, according to Brillindolls sources, to the intention that “most of the toilets can see themselves identified with them, feel a certain affinity and thus join this solidarity project. Incidentally, boys and girls will be able to choose the color they like best. ” Castro also wanted the little ones who play with one of these toilets to understand that they are “people who fight for the well-being of others and who do it unconditionally. And perhaps they will see the reflection of their own doctor, or of the one who cured a relative. It can even help provoke a health vocation in its owners ”.

The dolls can be purchased through the eBay platform and their price is 20 euros to which must be added 5 euros of shipping costs. They can also be ordered through the WhatsApp number: 653649923.
