(CNN Spanish) - A group of doctors and health specialists traveled this Wednesday to the town of Iquitos in the Loreto department, in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon, to attend to those affected by the covid-19 in the area.
The authorities of the Peruvian Ministry of Health have reported that this is one of the sectors hit by the pandemic with a case fatality rate that exceeds 4%.
This place can only be reached by air, so the medical team was transferred in Peruvian army planes.
The government of that country began operations several days ago to build an airlift and transport doctors and materials such as oxygen tubes and protective equipment. Also to bring back to Lima the health professionals who have been infected for their treatment.
