After five weeks without classroom instruction, everyday school life is slowly returning to Neufahrn's Oskar-Maria-Graf-Gymnasium.

Neufahrn - Lockdown and contact restrictions - under #wirbleibendaheim the Oskar-Maria-Graf-Gymnasium Neufahrn is experiencing school and teaching under completely new conditions. Even if after more than five weeks without "conventional" lessons, pupils and teachers are now returning step by step to a (for the time being) changed everyday school life.

The first students are back

The high school graduates are back, the 11th graders are back at the OMG. After this time, headmistress Juliane Stubenrauch-Böhme and the teaching staff have a special need to thank everyone "who, in one form or another, maintained school, teaching and school life virtually, digitally, from home or on site", as the senior study director says. What makes her particularly happy is that “many students have written to us in the past few weeks and days, that they miss school and are looking forward to the OMG.” And Stubenrauch-Böhme speaks on behalf of the teachers when she says: “We we look forward to seeing you as well as to the future fifth graders who are just registering with us. "

At OMG it was and is not an easy time for everyone involved. The lines "glow" thanks to the lively exchange and constant communication between schoolchildren, parents and teachers: calls are still very old-fashioned, messages are written via the parents' portal, letters to parents are published, e-mails are sent, and private messages and forum posts are made via mebis wrote that the school portal chatted and that telephone and video conferences were held, the headmistress describes the communication on all channels. Students would also maximize WiFi connections and data volume through houseparty sessions and the use of various tools, while the teachers moved their team meetings into the virtual room.

School had previously played a leading role in digitization

A school that is in charge of digitization throughout Bavaria is doing easier than others. Nevertheless, a lot is a challenge: thanks to various tools for Internet conferences, everyone involved is particularly happy to see friends, students or even teachers again. Be it in "specialist lessons" or in the "conferences" in the individual classes, where - almost like in school - there is talk, talk, question, talk, listen and laugh again. The school family receives support from the three student representatives, who motivate their classmates to persevere at home with their "tips for learning", as well as from the parents' council with their ideas and preparing to return to the OMG by sewing masks, praises Stubenrauch-Böhme.

Pupils, parents and teachers went new ways in “learning at home”: One-to-one conferences are now held in English, the popular monologue minute is spoken on mebis in French or the ablative absolute is explained in small groups in Latin . In English, the high school students discuss live with native speakers, write a collection of volumes titled "Good vibes during Corona" for several weeks or write greeting cards for residents of a retirement home in Los Angeles during the cross-class Solidarity week.

OMG cloud ensures more speed

In keeping with the textbook lesson "Un cyberprojet", the French learners of the OMG will soon present their ideas to the pupils of the partner school in Paris. In German classes, the students expanded their media skills and worked out an Easter book in virtual space with handicraft, cooking and game instructions, which they then implemented in an analogous and very real way during the Easter holidays. With the fantasy world "Imagine that there was no one in the classroom for a long time ...", the sub-graduates in the field of art considered which (own) life the plants in and around the school building might have developed in the past few weeks so jungle and rainforest after Neufahrn. Important: "Keep everyone healthy! Stay healthy! ”With the help of their numerous videos, suggestions and ideas on mebis, the sports instructors ensure sufficient exercise, strength and endurance to get the school family moving.

Fortunately, at the OMG, mebis did not suddenly fall from the sky. For years, students and teachers have been learning and teaching with the learning platform. Stubenrauch-Böhme is proud: “This means that work can continue in all subjects. Interactive, creative, communicative, differentiated, individual - nice that the possibilities on mebis and online are almost unlimited. ”And submitting homework and essays also works surprisingly virtually. In addition, there is the school's own cloud, which also speeds up data transfer. Structured weekly plans with clear information on the channels inform the pupils at the beginning of the week about the upcoming learning tasks. And it shouldn't fail with the digital end devices at home: "Where several children want to learn at the same time, we are happy to help and support you with devices that can be borrowed," says the school management.
