S-Bahn Munich: 840,000 travelers in a network that was designed for 250,000

The S7 West also only goes to / from the main train station without a stop at Hackerbrücke, the S7 East begins and ends at the Ostbahnhof. And the S8 travels from Pasing to Ostbahnhof without a stop, and the Leuchtenbergring station is also eliminated. Only from Daglfing does it continue normally to the airport (opposite direction accordingly). If you are traveling, you have to follow the signs for the replacement bus stops on site - at Marienplatz, this is located at Odeonsplatz, at Stachus at Lenbachplatz.

Up to 840,000 travelers take the S-Bahn Munich every day - in a system that was designed in 1972 for around 250,000 passengers. Construction measures to increase capacity are therefore urgently needed. And it is progressing, as a meeting of the experts recently showed: "The construction measures that have been carried out in 2020 so far, such as the track renewal between Starnberg and Tutzing, went smoothly," said S-Bahn boss Heiko Büttner.
