The 2020 local election is a bitter disappointment for Florian Sareiter (CSU). After he was narrowly defeated in the fight for mayor, he can now also not take up his mandate on the district council.

Bad Wiessee / Waakirchen– Even in local politics, things sometimes take turns on the last meters that are not at all in the interests of those affected. Florian Sareiter can sing a song about it in Bad Wiessee. Not only that the 41-year-old CSU candidate was just inferior to the SPD competitor Robert Kühn in the mayoral election and recently also went away empty-handed with his group in the race for the vice mayor. Sareiter will not be represented in the district council either. Even though he received 15,396 votes in the local election.

Article 24 of the district agenda stipulates that Sareiter may not take up his mandate. It states that "civil servants and senior or full-time employees of the district or district office as well as senior civil servants and senior employees of legal entities or other organizations in which the district has a stake of more than 50 percent" cannot be district councilors. Sareiter is an employee of the Kreissparkasse Miesbach-Tegernsee - said article applies to him because the district is responsible for the Kreissparkasse. "This is very annoying," Sareiter comments on the situation, especially since not a single Wiesseer is in charge at the district level.

He admits that he knew about Article 24. As is well known, Sareiter had hoped to become mayor of his home town. With that he could have accepted his mandate in the district council. Martina Eck is now moving up for Sareiter. The farmer was previously in the Gmunder municipal council, but no longer made it to the council table, but only took first place on the roster.

The Waakirchner Balthasar Brandhofer suffers the same fate

Balthasar Brandhofer

Like Sareiter, Balthasar Brandhofer from Waakirchen is doing the same. Brandhofer, a member of the Bavarian Party, no longer ran for the local council, but he did for the district council. He had 3931 votes, but the 59-year-old is also an employee of the Kreissparkasse and is subject to Article 24. Brandhofer admits that he knew about the article. Nevertheless, he had been a candidate. “If I were a caretaker at the Sparkasse, I should be able to accept the mandate,” quips Brandhofer, a little disappointed. Hans Triebel from Weyarn, who had previously been in the district council, is moving up for him.
