The Assembly validated Thursday evening the extension of six months of the validity of residence permits for foreigners and three months of certificates of asylum application expired between May 16 and June 15, due to the health context related to coronavirus .
The Ministry of the Interior had already announced in late April the extension by prescription of six months of residence permits, receipts and long-stay visas expired between March 16 and May 15.

The measure voted by the deputies inscribes this principle in the law and takes into account the “two months of confinement” , which prevented “the accompaniment” of the people concerned, underlined the Minister for the Interior Christophe Castaner in the hemicycle , during the examination at first reading of a composite bill bringing together "various provisions related to the health crisis" . The validity of residence permits expired between May 16 and June 15 will be extended by 180 days and "asylum claims certificates" by 90 days, he said.
LR deputies like Pierre-Henri Dumont or the non-registered Emmanuelle Ménard pleaded without success for shorter extensions.

MEPs also voted to extend the allowance for asylum seekers (ADA), for those who have ceased to be eligible as of March, to be extended until May 31. And until June 30 for refugees and beneficiaries of international protection.
