The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries reported on Wednesday that the Chinese fishing vessel  that was detected in an alleged illegal fishing maneuver on April 28 within the Argentine Exclusive Economic Zone (ZEEA) was successfully detained.

The Argentine Naval Prefecture reported that the Coast Guard GC-28 Prefect Derbes and a Chinese patrol aircraft escorted the Chinese-flagged ship Lu Rong Yuan Yu to Puerto Madryn (Chubut).

In a statement, the rural portfolio noted that the ship "was made available to the corresponding judicial and administrative procedures, including the one provided for in the Federal Fisheries Law (24,922)."

The operation had begun when the Prefecture, through its monitoring system for the Argentine Sea and the CG-27 Coast Guard Prefect Fique, identified the Chinese fishing vessel in full activity, with its work lights on, fishing gear deployed and in operation. Therefore, the deterrence protocol was put in place so that the fishing activity would cease and it could be inspected by a visiting crew.

Despite repeated radio frequency calls, the Chinese ship veered into international waters and managed to escape.

Finally, he managed to be identified, contact was made and it was determined that he should go to Puerto Madryn to make himself available to the competent authorities.

Currently an administrative summary is being carried out for alleged infraction of the Federal Fishing Regime, Law 24.922. Meanwhile, in the judicial order and under the classification of resistance to authority, a criminal case was brought in which the Federal Court of First Instance No. 2 of the City of Rawson, in charge of Dr. Gustavo Lleral, intervenes. Criminal Secretariat in charge of Dr. Juan Matías González Mazziotti.

Among the penalties established in front of this type of actions are those related to the crime of resistance to authority, fines for fishing without permission and the confiscation of the merchandise or its replacement, depositing the offender the amount equivalent to the value of said merchandise.
