A remake of the legendary gangster film Scarface , which will take place in Los Angeles, will be released with the Coen brothers in the script under the supervision of Universal Pictures studios, AFP learned from a source close to the film on Thursday. The feature film, the third cinematographic version of this bloody drama unfolding in the world of the American underworld, will be directed by Luca Guadagnino ( Call Me By Your Name ).

The first Scarface was produced in 1932 by Howard Hawks, who was inspired by a novel from the life of Al Capone and set the scene in the Italian mafia of Chicago. In 1983, Brian De Palma had chosen Miami for his successful remake, with Al Pacino in Tony Montana, a ruthless and violent Cuban refugee building himself a crime empire based on the trafficking of cocaine.
