(CNN Spanish) - The International Olympic Committee (IOC) calculated the losses from the postponement of the Tokyo Olympic Games at US $ 800 million.
The announcement was made by the body's president, Thomas Bach, during a meeting of the Executive Committee. This figure was calculated for the organizers, federations and international Olympic committees.
“This $ 800 million consists of two main parts. There is a share of US $ 650 million that refers to the cost to the organization of the postponed Olympic Games for the IOC and a support package of up to US $ 150 million for the Olympic movement, in particular international federations and national Olympic committees Bach added.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympics, scheduled to start in July, were postponed until July 2021 by the International Olympic Committee and the Japanese government due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Bach declined to speak about a further delay in the games and said: "We are one year and two months away, we should not feed any speculation about any future development."
