The TV talk show Maybrit Illner on ZDF was about the corona protests. Boris Palmer criticizes the government - and makes a bold comparison.

  • Maybrit Illner * was again on ZDF * about the consequences of the coronavirus * pandemic.
  • In the ZDF discussion round of Maybrit Illner who were corona protests in the center of the debate.
  • Greens politician Boris Palmer makes a bold comparison.

Maybrit Illner's editors can be positively attested: she had not invited a conspiratorial oath - unlike Sandra Maischberger the day before. The self-proclaimed "satirist" Matthias Richling was allowed to babble silly stuff without the moderator having stopped him. Deaf with sheer vanity, he continually brooded into the arguments and clever explanations of science editor Pia Heinemann.

But he did give an example of some of the protesters who are now demonstrating their displeasure with the government's actions at demonstrations - a heterogeneous crowd of people who are afraid for their existence and figures who use an aluminum hat instead of a brain for themselves protect against alleged manipulation.

Maybrit Illner on ZDF: are they all crazy?

Are they all crazy, Maybrit Illner asked on her program "Pandemic and protest - can Corona divide the country?" Certainly not, after all, many are currently desperate because they do not know what will happen tomorrow. But those standing up there on the stage, "they are really crazy", judged Nikolaus Blome, formerly "vice" vice and recently columnist at the mirror.

The chairperson of the European Ethics Council, Christiane Woopen, warns that the participants of so-called hygiene demonstrations and similar events should be dismissed as “crazy”.

Christiane Woopen, chairwoman of the European Ethics Council, said that abuse would also be driven by people's fear and misery. The demonstrators included many people who had problems with the term change, and the biggest worry was "the old middle," said Woopen.

ZDF talk Maybrit Illner: Boris Palmer makes historical comparison

Boris Palmer was involved, the Mayor of Tübingen. The Green believes the government's measures are wrong and fears that it will make "the same mistake as in 2015" when it preached "moralizing lack of alternatives" - an idiosyncratic view that Michael Meyer Hermann contradicted. The epidemiologist emphasized that Germany could be proud of the flat course of the infection curve.

The underutilized hospital beds are an indication that everything has been done correctly. The fact that the protests grew while the easing came into force is an example of the "prevention paradox": If you have taken enough precautions, you have to listen later that the exaggerated situation is not expected .

Maybrit Illner (ZDF): School openings as a big risk

Meyer Herrmann referred to the responsibility of the younger people, who were less likely to be infected themselves, but who had five times as many contacts as the older ones. That's why he sees a great risk in the school openings .

This led directly to questions about life and death. Because the Tübingen OB had to have his sentence brought up again, you save people who may die in a few months anyway. Palmer wanted to know a "stupid sentence" related to the residents of old people's homes. The epidemiologist had other statistics ready for life.

But Christiane Woopen generally declared the question of lifespan as not relevant. Which led to the question thrown into the debate by Wolfgang Schäuble whether life is the highest principle of action. Woopen created clarity: Life is a "fundamental good". Human freedom and dignity are "the greatest good". She repeated her suggestion to Illner that one should respect the elderly in their self-determination.

The Mayor of Tübingen Boris Palmer demands: Instead of reducing the number of infected people, the focus should now be on avoiding serious illnesses by protecting risk groups.

Palmer criticized the "lack of target accuracy" of the measures and warned, much like FDP boss Christian Lindner , about the consequences of economic damage; they would cost more lives "worldwide".

ZDF talk Maybrit Illner: an almost perfect easing strategy?

Meyer-Hermann represented the line of caution and has prepared a study according to which Germany acts quite close to the ideal easing strategy. And when Blome complained that not all scientists spoke with one voice, the doctor could point out that the four largest research institutes had done just that. In general, virologist Christian Drosten has said the key phrase that all sorts of “experts” are skeptical about the pandemic : as a virologist, he would never comment on the field of a bacteriologist ...

Saarland's Prime Minister Tobias Hans (CDU) was also satisfied. One has learned so much since the beginning of the crisis . It may have been partially exaggerated - but the death toll is low and society is far more stable than in neighboring countries. In any case, the Swedish way is too risky for Germany . "We have weathered it well so far."

Maybrit Illner (ZDF): fear of dying or fear of economic collapse

On the other hand, he would not be able to compensate for everything, it would not be enough. Blome warned: If it took longer, the protests would increase, and Chancellor Merkel might have to hear one day: "These are your unemployed."

The big misunderstanding is that the measures we take to suppress the virus are directed against people. It is the opposite. You should fear and free the economy again.

Meyer-Hermann hopes that the path taken will reduce the virus to such an extent that fear will also be overcome. Then there would be the ominous alternative; Fear of dying or fear of economic collapse done.
