China today called on France to immediately cancel plans to sell arms to Taiwan to prevent further damage to bilateral relations between the two countries.
"China is firmly opposed to arms sales to Taiwan by any country or military contact between any country and Taiwan," Xinhua news agency quoted Ren Guogiang, a spokesman of the Ministry of Defense, as saying. "There is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China."
Guqiang explained that the Chinese armed forces possess the unwavering will, full confidence and ability to thwart any foreign interference in China's affairs in Taiwan, protect national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
On the 12th of May, China renewed its adherence to the principle of "one China" in the world and affirmed that the Taiwan region is an "authentic part of Chinese territory."
