The Palestinian public's lack of interest in Nakba Day is not only due to the limitations of social remoteness. • In the past, activists did not hesitate to risk their lives in clashes with the IDF, but at the same time as the internal Palestinian split, many were anxious about their financial situation and were reluctant to sacrifice their security for national interests.

The Palestinian public in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip is responding indifferently to the Nakba Day (Friday, May 15) - and this is not solely due to the limitations of social remoteness due to the Corona epidemic.

Precisely this year, as Israel marks 100 years for the San Remo Conference, which saw the first buds in recognition of Israel as the national home of the Jewish people, the Corona provides a perfect excuse for the non-responsiveness of the Palestinian street to take part in the Nakba Day events. This date is marked by the Palestinians, highlighting the disaster narrative that followed them with the establishment of the State of Israel and the crushing defeat of Arab armies that invaded the young state by declaring historic independence at the end of the British mandate.

The intra-Palestinian split between the Palestinian Authority that controls the West Bank and the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip highlights most of all how far the Palestinians are not ripe for recognition of an independent state that will live peacefully with Israel.

Attempts by the Palestinian leadership to provoke the masses to protest the century's deal, the recognition of the Trump administration in Jerusalem as the eternal and unified capital of the Jewish state, and the transfer of the American embassy to Jerusalem - have been a failure in 2018, so the Corona was just another beer brand and no pestilence. Which has closed most of the world's countries and brought about a global economic crisis.

Today, the average Palestinian is anxious about his financial situation and is reluctant to sacrifice his and his family's financial security in the interests of Palestinian national interests.

Violent clashes between Palestinian protesters and IDF soldiers amount to hundreds of rioters at the seamstresses in Judea and Samaria in recent years. This was also the case with the border fence in the Gaza Strip, which remains orphaned by the tens of thousands of Palestinians who visited it every weekend and clashed with military forces in the order of Hamas and armed factions.

Despite the Palestinians' natural animosity towards the State of Israel, many in the Palestinian public are longing for someone who, within 72 years, has become a regional power, a startup nation and a developed country with a healthy and growing economy that, throughout the world, and without a few Arab states.

Among the Palestinians, there are quite a few who know and acknowledge - though not openly and profoundly, for fear of being labeled as collaborators with the Zionist occupation - that the Palestinian leadership has had many opportunities over the years to establish an area of independent and sovereign state with a developed economy and entrepreneurial spirit similar to the State of Israel.

The Palestinian public for the most part knows that if his reluctant leadership was more pragmatic and courageous, and did not rely on the international community and failed Arab states ruled by corrupt rulers and regimes, things might have been different. Therefore, the Palestinians, who in the past did not hesitate to risk their lives and confront IDF soldiers, mostly choose to stay home on the Nakba day when the Corona is the perfect excuse for this.
