In an opinion article, more than 250 artists worldwide demanded an end to the siege imposed by the Israeli occupation on the Gaza Strip, noting that it impedes the transportation of medical supplies and humanitarian aid in light of the Corona virus crisis.
In the article they signed, the artists said: “Long before the global pandemic’s threat” 19 يد was stifled by the health system in the already shattered Gaza Strip, the United Nations expected the living to be unbearable in the blockade, and in 2020 with the pandemic facing Gaza's population of About two million, the majority of them refugees, are a mortal threat in the world's largest open prison.
Artists wrote: “Before the current health crisis, Gaza hospitals had reached their maximum capacity due to a shortage of essential resources that are not allowed to enter due to the blockade imposed by Israel,” adding that the blockade impedes the transportation of medical supplies, crews and basic humanitarian assistance, and urgent international pressure is necessary. To make life in Gaza livable with dignity, the Israeli blockade must be lifted and an epidemic that could be devastating must be avoided.
The signatories affirmed that what is happening in Gaza is a test of the conscience of humanity, calling on all governments to support the call "to impose a military ban on Israel so that it fully respects its obligations under international law."
The Israeli occupation entity imposes a strict land, sea and air blockade on the Gaza Strip for 13 years.
