The researcher was prosecuted for "propaganda" against the Islamic Republic and "collusion to endanger national security".

Franco-Iranian researcher Fariba Adelkhah, detained since June 2019 in Iran, was sentenced to 5 years in prison for " collusion in order to attack national security ," his lawyer announced on Saturday May 16.

Said Dehghan said the researcher was also sentenced to one year for " propaganda against the system " of the Islamic Republic, but should only serve the longest sentence. This conviction can be appealed.

The anthropologist is a specialist in Shiism and a researcher at Sciences-Po Paris. After his appearance on April 19 in a court in Tehran, his lawyer had hoped for a release.

For almost a year, her support committee has judged the charges brought against her by grotesques. The researcher had been very weakened by a 49-day hunger strike between the end of December and February.

Her colleague and companion, Roland Marchal, arrested like her in June 2019 when he came to visit her in Tehran, was released in late March. Tehran then mentioned an exchange with an Iranian engineer detained in France and threatened with extradition to the United States.
