  • This is not the first time that criticism has been voiced.
  • Weather * expert Jörg Kachelmann has long accused the DWD of the same.

Offenbach - There are violent allegations that weather expert and qualified meteorologist Dominik Jung from the Q.met weather service has made against the German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach . He publicly denounces the way he works: "All of this can not be described as representative and has nothing to do with a serious measurement," says Jung. At the center of his criticism is a problem that weather colleague Jörg Kachelmann has long drawn attention to.

The summer days, which are officially called this from 25 degrees and which already delighted many people in May, are now the reason for the clinch between Jung and the DWD. According to the DWD's measurements last weekend in May (May 9 and May 10, 2020), the peak values averaged 28 degrees on both days. According to Jung, however, these values are highly controversial. They come from the weather station in Lingen in Lower Saxony. This caused a great stir in the weather among experts last year. In addition to the weather portal wetteronline.de, there was also criticism from weather expert Jörg Kachelmann.

Weather dispute: Jung accuses DWD of unreliable measurements from the Lingen weather station

The maximum value measured by the DWD in the Lingen weather station last summer and the new Germany record of 42.6 degrees was far higher than that of other weather stations. The value was therefore neither recognized by wetteronline.de, who according to the NDR described it as "unusable" and "unacceptable", nor by Kachelmann. The general opinion among experts is that the weather station in Lingen does not qualify for adequate temperature measurement. There is too little wind there * and the heat would build up due to thick hedges and tall rows of trees.

The federal authority then went to the defense and DWD spokesman Andreas Friedrich told the NDR that both the measuring technology and the environment  had been checked. All conditions correspond to international standards , says Friedrich. Weather expert Jung still holds on to his doubts: “At that time, the German Weather Service said that the location and the measurements were OK. You have to question that again after this weekend. ”All weather stations in the Lingen area would have measured values up to four degrees below the Lingen value. He therefore calls for the weather station to be relocated, as the DWD has been planning since 2014.

It is remarkable. After the station has been relocated, there will never be a heat record in that area, it will also last for a long time because there is no comparable station in such an unventilated hollow.https: //t.co/t5Dlxcf8SO# Lingen #record heat https://t.co/tI02dM6gp0
