Was the break-up of the La République group marching in the Assembly predictable?
Bruno CAUTRÈS. - In retrospect, we can say that this separation was probable. LREM presents a peculiarity: it is a party which is very united around values which divide the other political formations: Europe and the leadership embodied by the leader, in this case Emmanuel Macron. No one in the party questions these two fundamentals. But conversely, LREM is divided on the ideological corpus, which in the other parties is a factor of unity. In a study in which I participated for the think-tank Terra Nova 18 months ago, we had already identified the seeds of a division within the macronists.
What are these divisions?
There are several families among macronists. There is in particular what one can call the “egalitarian progressives”, who are culturally progressive on the societal level but with a social and solidarist dimension
