And yet, three-digit deaths related to Covid-19 continue to be recorded in the Mediterranean country.

According to Johns Hopkins University , the number of reported corona deaths rose from 31,610 to 31,763 in the evening (as of 10:20 p.m.) between Saturday afternoon (as of 3:45 p.m.). At the same time, 224,760 infections with the Sars-CoV-2 pathogen were reported in the EU country .

Corona crisis in Italy: only one meter distance instead of 1.50 meters

Update of May 16, 12:58 p.m .: Italy is also increasingly loosening its measures in the corona crisis. Extensive easing will apply from Monday

Now Italians can leave their homes freely and at least move in their respective region . Until June 2, trips to other regions are only possible for reasons of work, health or urgency, reports the daily La Reppublica. 

In addition, friends can now be met again. Only the distance has to be kept. And that will be lowered in Italy. Instead of 1.5 meters, it now only has to be one meter. If the distance cannot be maintained, a mask must be worn. 

Churches, synagogues, gyms and swimming pools are also opening again. When playing sports, a bastand of two meters must be observed. 

There are also new rules for the beaches. Here the distances that have to be observed become shorter: "One and a half meters between sun loungers and deck chairs, one meter between people and a space of ten square meters for each umbrella, including sun loungers and table," the sheet says. The beaches generally open on May 29th. However, the regions can decide to bring the date forward. 

Update from May 16, 8.29 a.m .: Italy apparently plans to reopen the borders from June 3 . Then people from the EU and the Schengen area could re-enter - even without going into quarantine for two weeks afterwards, Italian media reported on Friday evening, citing government circles . So far, entry is only possible in exceptional cases, for example for Italians abroad who want to return to their home country or foreigners who are resident in Italy.

Update of May 13, 9:56 pm: With a new aid package worth around 55 billion euros, the Italian government wants to help the troubled economy and the citizens of the Corona crisis . The corresponding program was presented by Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte in Rome on Wednesday.

Too long a blockade of the economy would have "serious social effects", said the tourism representative Andrea Corsini. The Emilia-Romagna is home to well-known Adriatic seaside resorts  such as Rimini.

Veneto also wants to "open everything that is possible from Monday," said regional president Luca Zaia. Liguria also wants to lift the ban on beaches around Genoa .

Corona crisis in Italy: largest economic stimulus program in the country's history
