(CNN Spanish) - Almost 19 years after its original premiere, the famous song "Color Esperanza" by the Argentinean interpreter Diego Torres is reversed with a beneficial purpose: to contribute to the fight against covid-19 in the American continent.
Global Citizen announced on Saturday that it joined forces with Sony Music Latin to launch a new version of the song in which they bring together a dozen artists. Proceeds from sales will go to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO, for its acronym in Spanish).
Diego Torres, the original interpreter of the theme, will be accompanied by artists such as Rubén Blades, Thalía, Carlos Vives, Jorge Villamizar de Bacilos, Leonel García, Kany García, Diego el Cigala, Fonseca, the Mexican group Camila, the Colombian singer-songwriter Camilo, Pedro Capó, Coti, Dilsinho, the Venezuelan singer-songwriters Mau and Ricky, Prince Royce, Rauw Alejandro, the Mexican group Reik, Río Roma, Carlos Rivera, Ángela Torres, Manuel Turizo, Nicky Jam, Lali, Ara Malikian, Ivete Sangalo, Spanish singer Dani Martín, Leslie Grace, Gente de Zona and Farruko.
The song will be available on all streaming platforms starting Monday. Likewise, the video, which has the participation of the aforementioned artists, will be published the same day on the YouTube channel of Sony Music Latin.
In the early 2000s, the song became a hymn of hope for several countries in Latin America and even in the United States and has been used as a "soundtrack" for various social causes.
In 2003, Torres performed the theme for Pope John Paul II during the Youth Days in Madrid.
The song, written by the Argentine composer Coti Sorokin and produced by Cachorro López with Diego López, was released in October 2001, during the economic crisis in Argentina.
This is not the first initiative of the Global Citizen movement related to the coronavirus. In March, together with the curatorial office of Lady Gaga, they organized a massive virtual concert called “Together At Home”, whose donations benefited the World Health Organization and its fight against covid-19.
