" Let us not transform the sanitary confinement into a democratic confinement which would be harmful to the future of France and organize the second round of the municipal elections from June ", urge the signatories, among whom are François Rebsamen (Dijon), Nicolas Florian (Bordeaux), Stéphane Le Foll (Le Mans) or the LR candidate in Marseille Martine Vassal.

According to these elected officials, the rapid organization of the ballot is necessary because " millions of French people are waiting to have a mayor, a municipal and community team in place, capable of making crucial decisions for our schools, our transport, our jobs ".

In fact, around 5000 municipalities are waiting for this second round. The 30,000 others in France who elected their mayor in the first round on March 15.

The executive is expected to decide next week, after receiving an opinion from the Scientific Council, on the possibility of holding the poll by the end of June. If this were not the case, the entire election would have to be repeated for the municipalities concerned, in the fall or even next March depending on the scenarios.

Imperative

" How to ask the French who, despite their concern, came to vote on March 15, to redo a first round? "Wonder the authors of the tribune. " As a reminder, more than 25.5 million inhabitants live in a municipality affected by the second round, " they stress again.

It is therefore imperative to close this electoral sequence as soon as possible, before the summer period. We cannot ask mayors to reopen schools for education and close them for the elections, ”they argue. The city councilors also claim that due to the suspension of this second round, the intermunicipalities could not be installed.

However, “ 70% of public procurement is carried out by municipalities and inter-municipal authorities. They are the vital arm essential to our economy and our jobs, ”they observe.

Many political figures have voiced their preference for several days for a second round at the end of June, probably on the 28th.
