Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif stressed that his country has the right to take appropriate and necessary measures to confront any American threat, calling on the United States to respect the prevailing international laws, especially in the field of freedom of navigation in international waters.
And the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s media department quoted Zarif as saying today in a letter addressed to the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in response to the US provocations against Iranian oil tankers heading to Venezuela that “illegal and dangerous American threats are a form of piracy and a great threat to international peace and security and must The United States must abandon its arrogance. ”
In a related context, the Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned the Swiss ambassador in Tehran in his capacity as a representative of the American interests in Iran to send a strong warning to the American administration against the consequences of obstructing the movement of any Iranian oil tanker shipping fuel to Venezuela.
"We summoned the ambassador of Switzerland, the guardian of American interests in Iran, and we informed him of Tehran's strong protest against the American threats ... and we asked him to convey our message that our response will be swift and decisive if the United States takes any provocative step," said Assistant Secretary of State Abbas Araghchi.
Araghchi indicated that commercial relations between Iran and Venezuela are legal and that arrogant US practices threaten maritime navigation and international trade.
