Many have cleared out, the used clothing containers are full - but the recycling market has collapsed as a result of the Corona crisis. The AWISTA must therefore suspend the acceptance of used textiles for several weeks.

Starnberg - The municipal company AWISTA will no longer accept old clothes until at least the end of the Whitsun holidays (June 13). The users only accept goods to a very limited extent, the export has actually collapsed. Although the market is slowly recovering, AWISTA is currently unable to get rid of the old textiles.

"Please refrain from donating your old clothes until further notice (at least until after Pentecost holidays). In urgent cases, such as household dissolutions or relocations, you can hand in your used textiles to the recycling depots, ”said the AWISTA-Starnberg KU in its press release. In the past few weeks there has been an increase in the number of used textiles in the district, as many would have used the time of exit and contact restrictions to tidy up and sort out. At the same time, sorting companies, clothing stores and other recycling channels have closed. For these reasons, many old textile containers are currently overcrowded and are only emptied to a very limited extent.

The company asks the population to do the following:

  • If possible, store your clothing donation at home and only hand it in after the overall situation has normalized.
  • Do not place garment bags in front of or next to overfilled collection containers. Instead, help to avoid littering and report pollution to the recycling islands to the AWISTA-Starnberg KU by email or phone.
  • Please do not dispose of clothing donations as residual waste.
  • In any case, do not dispose of non-textile waste via the container. The municipal company incurs high costs for the disposal of this waste.

Interested parties can find tips and tricks for avoiding waste or the right recycling on the website of AWISTA Starnberg KU at www.awista-starnberg.de. The company will answer questions about waste disposal on 08151 2 72 60 from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
