The New York Stock Exchange opened sharply higher on Monday, and confirmed its good performance thereafter, causing in its wake a rebound in the world stock markets. The reason? The American laboratory Moderna has reported encouraging results on a small group of patients in the initial phase of clinical trials of its mRNA-1273 vaccine against Covid-19. The trials appear to elicit an immune response of the same magnitude as that seen in those who have been naturally infected with the virus, the firm said in a statement.

This announcement caused the share price to soar (+ 25%) and, at the same time, gave a boost to the New York Stock Exchange, which had declined last week. In the middle of the day, Monday, the leading American indices were in the green: the Dow Jones climbed more than 3.5%, the Nasdaq, with strong technological coloring, of almost 2.5%, while the SP 500, which represents the 500 largest companies on Wall Street, rose by more than 3%.
In the wake of the rebound in the American indices, the CAC 40 and the German DAX ended the day up sharply, at more than 5%. "It is very good to see this kind of information, but we are still at a very early stage and it is better not to be too enthusiastic" , tempers JJ Kinahan of TD Ameritrade, recalling that the complete results of this test phase 1 are not yet known.
