After exacerbating the hard-hit Corona epidemic in European countries, and overcoming its acute fissures, the EU turned to addressing its favorite topic: Israel.

The government that was barely assembled has not yet issued an action plan, and the EU has already rushed to threaten to impose punitive measures, including economic sanctions and even a suspension of diplomatic ties, if Israel dares to implement its intention to apply Israeli law to parts of Judea and Samaria.

The bureaucrats at the Union headquarters in Brussels cannot really drag Europe into war in Israel, as many of the mainland countries, such as Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary and others, have close ties with Israel. All of these have a full stomach on the EU that failed at the moment of truth and left them alone, facing the challenge of closure, death and the economic crisis brought by the Corona. But some leading countries in Europe, most notably France, Belgium, Spain, and Ireland, some of which are hostile to Israel, are determined to lead an anti-Israeli move and threaten to impose punitive measures even if most of the Union countries do not join.

Disagreement between friends is legitimate, but in all matters of Israeli-European relations, and more specifically, some of the Union countries, this is not. The Palestinians are interested in the EU as the garlic shell. Concerns about international law, which he says Israel violates, are not top of mind. After all, the EU is showing equanimity in the face of the Turkish occupation in Cyprus, as well as Tibet or the Western Sahara from mentioning in Brussels.

But Israel is always seen as an attractive target to strike for Arab and Muslim sympathy. Apart from that, the EU is still committed to the decades-old fixation that the Palestinian issue is the key to solving the entire Middle East's problems. Not that Europeans care about poverty and distress across the Middle East, but they are disturbed by the waves of immigration that sweep Europe, as a result of the instability in the Arab world, and are convinced that they will be able to curb it.

However, the European obsession with Israel seems to have another deep motive. Europeans are appropriate in Israel, but aim the blow at President Trump, where many Europeans see an opponent. It is part of an entrenched anti-American sentiment, which combines seasoned jealousy with a sense of condescension, who is a successful antithesis, and transcends the "old continent."

The close and intimate alliance between Israel and the United States is undoubtedly a strong point for Israel, and it is breaking its rails all over the world. Not in Europe. For Europeans, the ever-growing identity between Jerusalem and Washington and the flowering intimacy between them, is either an original sin or This is how arrows are sent from Europe to Israel, instead of Washington, in the hope that not only will the government feel in Israel - but also the White House -

a deep, rooted Europe, which even a settlement with the Palestinians will probably not resolve. They are fortunate, because there are enough older leaders Europe, such as Chancellor Merkel and others, who are attentive to Israel and its problems and also recognize the European interest in their relations, but the bureaucrats in Brussels, and behind them some European countries, are likely to wait for the next opportunity to hit Israel.
