The body of China's ambassador to Israel, who died yesterday (Sunday) abruptly from a heart attack, will be flown to China this Wednesday evening, the Israeli-China Foreign Ministry said today.
The Beijing Foreign Ministry reiterated its intention to launch a delegation to collect the body. Instead, the Foreign Ministry will hold a farewell ceremony from the ambassador, who arrived in Israel only two months ago. Representatives of the Foreign Ministry, the President's House, the Government Secretariat and the diplomatic staff serving in Israel will participate in the farewell ceremony.
Yesterday, the Chinese ambassador was found dead in his home in Herzliya. Police forces who arrived at the ambassador's house yesterday did not find any suspicious signs of a criminal incident.
Ambassador Du Vie took office just two months ago, in the midst of the Corona epidemic. The Foreign Ministry defined Du Wei as a "professional diplomat" and said the 58-year-old Chinese ambassador was married and a white father. "His wife and son are not with him in Israel. He arrived in Israel on February 15 and spent two weeks in solitary confinement. In his previous role, he served as China's ambassador to Ukraine," the Foreign Ministry noted.
