US President Donald Trump has launched the flag of the US "Space Force" - and an announcement of superlatives.

US President Donald Trump has launched the flag of the US "Space Force" - and an announcement of superlatives.

  • The Putin government has had a hypersonic rocket since December 2019
  • Donald Trump now wants to counteract this with a "super duper rocket" .
  • In the White House, the US President has now introduced the controversial logo of the  "Space Force" flag.

Update of May 18 : US President Donald Trump * presented the new "Space Force " flag in the White House on Friday - the logo of which caused a lot of ridicule early on (see first report on January 26) . The reason: The central delta symbol is reminiscent of the "Star Trek" logo. In fact, it is modeled on the emblem of the U.S. Air Force's space section . The "Space Force" declared that it had been used there since 1961 - there was no "Star Trek" * yet.

Trump presented the "Space Force" flag immediately after the "Operation Warp Speed" press conference . It is about the fastest possible development of a coronavirus vaccine * . The name goes back to the fictitious "warp drive" from "Star Trek".

Trump at "Space Force" -PK: "I call it the super duper rocket"

According to Trump, the U.S. Armed Forces are developing the world's fastest hypersonic missile . It should fly 17 times faster than the missiles previously available in the US arsenal and three times faster than the fastest missiles from other countries such as Russia or China. "I call it the Super Duper rocket," Trump said on Friday.

Trump said the project had been given the green light. Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman did not want to comment on a press conference on Friday and referred to the White House. White House spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany again referred to Trump at her press conference when asked about the project.

With the "Space Force", Trump created his own US sub-force in December 2019. He said on Friday, "Space will be the future in terms of both defense and attack, and so many other things." At the end of December, the Russian army put its new "Avant-Garde" hypersonic missile into service, which, according to Russian sources, was 20 times as much is as fast as the sound - so that it cannot be intercepted by defense systems. Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin * announced the weapon in response to US missile defense systems.

Donald Trump euphorically tweets new "Space Force" logo - and overlooks embarrassing detail

Initial report of 26 January:  Washington - Since Trump - Tweet on Friday (January 24) not only the wonder Star Trek fans in the world: Have US President Donald Trump and his military advisers never Trek looked or them the similarity just doesn't matter?

Spicy: CNN quotes a spokesman for the US military, according to which Trump has been presented with several logos to choose from. The president himself then decided on the solution, which now causes a lot of ridicule and malice in the network.

Even more piquant: Trump publishes its logo on the same day that the new series "Star Trek: Picard" celebrates its premiere.

But right from the start: On Friday Trump published the new logo of his "Space Force", of course via Twitter , in German: Space Army.

Trump tweet about his Space Force is getting a lot of ridicule - even from Star Trek celebrities

And Trump is visibly proud of his choice. He writes: "After consulting with our great military leaders, designers and others, I am pleased to present the new logo for the United States Space Force, the sixth division of our Enchanting Military!"

But shortly after Trump's tweet with the official logo in the appendix, many Twitter users couldn't believe their eyes. Especially the fans of the world-famous science fiction franchise Star Trek were flabbergasted. The logo looks deceptively similar to that of Star Trek.

On Tuesday evening, Donald Trump also presented his long-awaited Middle East plan.

Trump: US Space Force logo looks deceptively similar to Star Trek logo

In fact, prominent reactions via Twitter were not long in coming. Robert Picardo , known as " Doctor " in the Star Trek series Voyager, makes a direct comparison and writes: "I thought China would trample on copyrights."

And a direct comparison actually shows that the two logos look embarrassingly similar.

"Um, we expect royalties for that ..." writes George Takei , for example , who has embodied Captian Kirk's helmsman Hikaru Sulu in the Star Trek universe for decades .

Ahem. We are expecting some royalties from this ... https://t.co/msYcJMlqjh

Donald Trump: Air Force Logo already had a delta in the picture

Clear. Trump supporters and other Twitter users vehemently point out that the Air Force used the delta symbol in its logo long before Star Trek, namely as early as 1942.

For those excitedly tweeting that Trump stole the Star Trek logo !!!!, the patch on the left was the existing Air Force Command logo.

So you could say that Star Trek stole the logo from the US military first, so many Trump supporters. However, none of the Star Trek celebrities question this.

Enterprise star George Takei in guest post: "Trump is the evil reflection of Star Trek"

In contrast, George Takei rightly points out in a guest post by the Washington Post that the final version of the new Space Force logo with its concentric rings and the object whizzing around the symbol in orbit is much more reminiscent of Star Trek than that old Air Force logo. "I'm afraid it could easily confuse Vulcans and Klingons who see the new logo," writes Takei.

Apart from that, Takei's message in that guest post is much more serious. He takes the logo as an opportunity to make a creepy comparison. Namely that the Trump administration, with the new logo at the latest, is a frightening reminder of the mirror universe, which is the subject of several episodes of various Star Trek series, and draws a dark world. With a humanity that - in contrast to the Star Trek utopia - acts purely selfish, hungry for power and inhumane.

Background to the United States Space Force (USSF):

  • The United States Space Force (USSF) is the newest and sixth division of the U.S. military and was only officially founded on December 20, 2019
  • The Space Force is the first new division since the Air Force was founded (1947).
  • So far, all military actions in space have been subject to the Air Force Space Command.
  • The USSF is designed to safeguard the interests of the United States in space and to defend the United States against attacks and threats above and from space.
  • Public reactions to the new unit are mixed. Even when the Space Force uniforms were released a few days ago, the ridicule was great.
