Update from May 20, 2020, 11:25 a.m .: The small war between Donald Trump and the media is entering the next round. At a press conference, the US president once again abused CNN reporter Kaitlan Collins , who had become something of his favorite enemy in the past few days.

Donald Trump against CNN: petty war in the corona pandemic

"What a rude person you are," Trump said to Collins. The reason for the presidential attack was the reporter's question of how Trump wanted to lead the US out of the historic economic crisis caused by the corona pandemic , and how he wanted to bring the over 30 million unemployed back into work. Trump replied Collins: "You'll see. And even this time you will be impressed. "

The feud between Kaitlan Collins and Donald Trump has been going on for several weeks. Trump attacked Collins on Twitter and insulted him as "fake" because she had briefly removed her mask after a press conference in the White House.

Collins responded to Trump and wrote: "Almost 90,000 Americans were killed by the corona virus, and the President tweets about me because I took off my mask for six seconds on Friday."

Donald Trump scandal - US President steps up in war against media

First report from April 28th, 2020

USA - The corona crisis brings a new climax to the years-long war between US President Donald Trump * and the " Fake News  Media" (o-ton Donald Trump). In a video, the media critic and journalist now complains in the service of "Washington Post ”, Erik Wemple, the President and his team for attempting to intimidate the media.

Corona consultation hours with Donald Trump escalated

Wemple offered an action last Friday for the video. Katie Price, a member of the White House press team, asked Chris Johnson, a Washington Blade correspondent, to swap his seat in the back row with one in the first row - the place that actually Kaitlan Collins , a correspondent of the news broadcaster CNN .

Johnson and Collins refused to trade unless asked to do so by the White House Correspondents Association, the WHCA. The WHCA organizes the allocation of seats in the press room of the White House - more or less undisturbed since it was founded in 1914. Price threatened the two journalists to turn on the Secret Service, the federal agents responsible for protecting the president.

Scandal in the White House over Donald Trump: More reporters get involved

Other reporters intervened in the conflict and announced that they would leave the press room in protest if their colleague was really forced to change seats by the Trump administration

White House staff just came into the briefing room and informed the print pooler that they want them to swap seats w CNN. That would move CNN to the back row from the front. @whca made these seat assignments not staff

Indeed, Secret Service agents soon appeared in the White House press room, probably because of the corona crisis , with makeshift mouthguards. However, instead of emphasizing the threats, an agent - as can be clearly heard on the video - informed the CNN correspondent that she could remain in her place. Donald Trump is said to have left the hall.

Wemple is very clear in the video on the matter: "The White House involves the Secret Service and uses cheap intimidation tactics to scare reporters out of their seats." Donald Trump and his team would have one main goal: " The president doesn't want to hear or answer questions like CNN and other media. "

Donald Trump and CNN: A feud with a history

The feud between Donald Trump and CNN is far from new. Since the beginning of his presidency, Trump has complained about what he considers to be unfair reporting by the largest news channel in the United States. Together with the " New York Times " and the " Washington Post ", CNN forms the triumvirate of "fake news media" in Trump's universe.

In 2018, for example, the White House withdrew its accreditation from the long-time correspondent after a public dispute between Trump and Jim Acosta . Trump's spokeswoman for the press, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, also published a manipulated video to show how Acosta roughly refuses to hand over the pool microphone to a White House employee. The matter became a case for the judiciary, and a Washington court ruled that the White House should hand over the accreditation to Acosta again.

However, that did not stop Trump from attacking "Crazy Jim Acosta" in numerous tweets - not to mention his tweets in the form of verbal attacks against CNN. Donald Trump made disparaging comments on the news channel on Twitter * more than 600 times.

Corona crisis: Donald Trump faces the press every day - and makes things worse

Then the corona crisis came and Donald Trump suddenly appeared every day in the press room of his office. As expected, this did not ease the situation. Since then, Collins and her colleagues have confronted Trump with his contradictory statements, with the failings of his administration in the fight against the corona virus, or simply with the absurdity of his thoughts, no matter whether he claims "absolute power" against the states or the injection of Disinfectant as a measure in case of illness with  Covid-19 proposes.

Apparently, Donald Trump has now decided to stick to his daily press conferences. The war against the media is therefore still being fiercely waged. Fortunately for CNN and Co., however, at least the Secret Service keeps out of the matter.
