The prevailing heavy fire across the country, when temperatures in more than 40 degrees are measured, immediately raises the question of comparison to past - have such high temperatures ever been measured in May? The short answer is yes, and so far, no record highs have been broken in the current system, but this week, too, there are places where temperatures are very high for this stage of the season.

As a rule, the occurrence of the event can only be examined after it has been completed, but assuming that the predicted temperature values do materialize, the current event is expected to be unprecedented in duration. For example, a 6-day sequence with a temperature of over 38 degrees in the coastal plain is unprecedented. The same is true for a 6-day hot period from 36 degrees in the mountains, or above 42 degrees in the Sea of Galilee.

For example, the peak of the wheel is 47.7 degrees, and today it is 47 degrees; The peak in May for quarrying is 47.9 degrees, and today it has been measured at 45 degrees. In Paran, the peak in May is 45.9 degrees, and today they have measured 43 degrees "only". In Acre, the peak was measured at 44.7 degrees, and today there are 38 degrees. Haifa stands at 44.6 degrees - and in the current system 40 degrees were measured in the city; In Tel Aviv, the peak is at 46.5 degrees and in the current system - 43 degrees; In Jerusalem - 39.6 degrees is the peak compared to 38 degrees this week. The high in Be'er Sheva is 44.8 degrees, compared to 43 degrees this week.

What's more, while there were previously sequences of shrub days in the spring, they were shorter and / or with lesser temperatures. In June 2012, there was a 5-day sequence with temperatures higher than 35 degrees in the center mountains. April 1998: A 6-day sequence with temperatures higher than 34 degrees in the coastal plain. In April 1994, there was a 4-day sequence with temperatures higher than 38 degrees in the coastal plain, and in May 1988 there was a 3-day sequence with temperatures higher than 41 degrees in the coastal plain.

Prolonged heat waves are more common in the summer and fall and may include, among other things, severe and prolonged sequences in August 2015, July 2012, August 2010, October 1993 and more, but even in these events the sequence was not as expected in the current event.

Regarding the record breaking of May's absolute temperature values - despite the unusual sequence of days, the event does not have a dramatic record on one of the days so it is unclear if the May records will break and where. However, a long duration of heat wave is usually accompanied by record breaking, as there is a long window of time to form local conditions that will reduce heat, so that each day can highlight a region with extremely extreme values (in the current table) May peak values from the beginning of measurements.

And what's next? The heavy heat wave will last until the fifth, and first - a chance of rain. Even today, a heavy rod with heavy to extreme heat loads prevailed. During the morning, strong eastern winds blew in the mountains, and in the afternoon, northwesterly winds blew along the coastal plain.

Tomorrow he will add a heavy scabbard to all parts of the country alongside heavy to extreme heat loads. There may still be haze in most areas. During the morning strong eastern winds will blow in the mountains.

On Thursday, there will be a slight drop in temperatures along the coastal plain and lowlands, but heavy rainfall will continue to dominate all parts of the country with heavy to extreme heat loads. On Friday it will be partly cloudy, there will be a significant drop in temperatures and rise in humidity mainly in the coastal plain, lowlands and northern Negev, but still warmer than usual for the season until many, especially in the mountains and inland.

And that's not all: After the fire breaks, on Sunday, and the expected cool down, there is the possibility of a brief, but significant rainfall. In fact, this is a cold air block that is expected to reach from the eastern European region to the eastern Mediterranean, so rain is expected during Sunday to Monday morning in the north and center. On Monday, there is still a chance of rain in the north and center, and it will stop during the day. Nahum Malik, a meteorologist forecaster, notes that "this is an unusual rainfall for this period in the season, but due to the forecast range (5 days onwards) its scope is still unclear."
