Celebrities and scientists join forces against covid-19 0:58
(CNN) - Some of Hollywood's best-known stars are teaming up with Dr. Anthony Fauci and other experts to carry out a campaign that highlights what they say is the need for a more unified global response to the coronavirus pandemic.
The #PassTheMic (Pass the microphone) campaign , announced this Wednesday, is part of the ONE World campaign and seeks “a global response to covid-19 that protects the most vulnerable, supports the most economically affected people, strengthens the systems of health and create a fairer and more equal world ”. Carried by ONE , a global campaign to end extreme poverty and preventable diseases by 2030.
Julia Roberts, Shailene Woodley, Rainn Wilson, and Penelope Cruz joined other celebrities and health experts in a video that seeks to call into action by sharing the microphone. Fauci is a critical member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force and serves as director of the United States National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
Starting Thursday and for three weeks, some of the stars will hand over their social media accounts for a day to frontline workers and experts in health, economics and other topics to allow them to share their perspectives on the pandemic.
Roberts will be the first to pass his account for the campaign. She will give it to Fauci.
