The Homs Chamber of Agriculture started distributing vegetable seedlings to families benefiting from the home garden project grant implemented by the Chamber in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and the World Food Program to support rural families.
Engineer Ayman Akkari, coordinator of the project in Homs, said in a statement to SANA correspondent today that the number of beneficiaries of the current grant amounted to 1000 rural families distributed over a number of regions in Homs, noting that the grant includes the distribution of 1000 seedlings of summer vegetables for each beneficiary, including 400 seedlings of eggplant, 400 peppers and 200 tomatoes.
Akkari indicated that high-quality fertilizer will also be distributed to each beneficiary, pointing out that the project is currently in its third phase, which included the distribution of winter vegetable seeds to the beneficiaries and the distribution of irrigation networks and accessories for the beneficiaries.
Akkari indicated that the project aims to provide support to rural families in order to improve their livelihoods and help them secure an income source that contributes to securing their needs and providing the local market with agricultural products.
It is noteworthy that the number of beneficiaries reached 3350 beneficiaries since the start of the project in 2017.
In Sweida, the Directorate of Agriculture in Suwayda distributed a grant of seedlings of tomato and eggplant in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations FAO.
In a statement to a Sana correspondent, the head of the Department of Rural Women, Eng. Mohsen Mohsin Abu Samra, indicated that the grant included the distribution of 480,000 seedlings to about a thousand beneficiaries in 18 villages who were chosen based on a set of prizes including needy families and families headed by women, as well as the presence of a garden adjacent to the home and a source of water and a desire to work The target person.
The engineer, Abu Samra, pointed out the importance of the grant to expand vegetable crops within home gardens and encourage family farms in a way that achieves self-sufficiency with selling surplus production and securing a source of income for it.
