Corona protests: organizers cancel major demo in Stuttgart - Seehofer starts appeal

Update of May 20, 2:18 p.m .:  Interior Minister Horst Seehofer (CSU) has appealed to democratically minded initiators of the Corona protests not to let extremists take them over. The organizers of the rallies should make sure that they are not misused, said Seehofer on Wednesday in Berlin. "We have to make sure that extremists don't get the upper hand here."

He was very concerned about the infiltration of the demonstrations, added Seehofer. There are calls that the Corona measures should be used for a "revolution" or the establishment of a "new republic" . "You have to take that very seriously." The interior minister also pointed out that the right to demonstrate must also be guaranteed in Corona times and that democratic citizens should be able to protest.

"The registration for the meeting was withdrawn by the organizers," said a spokeswoman on Wednesday. Last weekend in Stuttgart there was the largest demonstration in Germany with 5000 participants.

Corona demos: Minister of the Interior sees no "essential character" of the protests by right-wing extremists

Update of May 20, 9:38 a.m .: There are warnings from various parties that right-wing extremists are trying to capture the Corona demos . According to a newspaper report,  however , the Federal Ministry of the Interior has so far found that a "significant character" of the protests by right-wing extremists is "currently not recognizable". The Saarbrücker Zeitung quotes   from a response from the Ministry to a parliamentary question from the FDP .

The demonstrations are currently "carried out by an extremely heterogeneous, but at its core still democratic field of participants," said the ministry, the newspaper said. At the same time, the department warns that several right-wing organizations have called for strategic participation in the protests. In the paper, the parties named NPD , The Rights and The III. Way . Therefore, it cannot be ruled out that the number of right-wing extremists taking part will increase.

Corona demo: conspiracy theorist raves, cop shows him off - video

Update from May 18, 7.30 p.m .:  The limit of 50 people at outdoor gatherings is to be lifted in Berlin soon. The proposal of the Berlin coalition groups of the SPD, Left Party and Greens stipulates that "there is no rigid upper limit for outdoor meetings, but instead is based on compliance with the distance and hygiene rules ", as the groups announced on Monday.

Conditions must always be determined on a case-by-case basis and "appropriate measures must be taken to ensure fundamental rights and health protection ". " Freedom of religion should also be made possible again in the future, in compliance with the distance and hygiene regulations", said the political groups. They call on the Senate to amend the regulations on assembly law accordingly.

In recent weeks, more than the allowed 50 people have gathered in Berlin in the open. On May 1st, more than a thousand supporters of the left-wing scene demonstrated in the Kreuzberg district. More than a thousand people recently demonstrated against the corona containment measures in Mitte .

Federal press conference on corona fake news: Bill Gates as an example

Update from May 18, 1:22 p.m .: Fake news and  conspiracy theories * relating to the corona pandemic were again the subject of the  federal press conference. Ulrike Demmer, deputy government spokeswoman, took Bill Gates *  and his “Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation” as examples  .

"Bill Gates 'Foundation is committed to combating poverty and health protection in the Third World worldwide," said Demmer and has invested the equivalent of 250 million euros worldwide in combating corona - "and the Federal Government expressly appreciates Gates' work".

Federal press conference on Corona fake news: "Take the topic very seriously"

Demmer promises that the federal government will “continue to provide comprehensive and transparent information about the corona pandemic. It is currently really important to check facts from reliable sources and to “critically” question them, because: “Nonsense can quickly become deeds - attacks by journalists * who reported corona demos have shown this,” Demmer said.

A journalist asks whether Germany may have a bigger problem with fake news than other countries - and that this could also be due to the information policy of the federal government ("You say one thing and do the other"). Demmer does not accept this criticism. The Federal Government takes the topic “very seriously”, she replies, because it can have “life-threatening effects”.

Corona demo: conspiracy theorist raves, cop shows him off - video

Update from May 18, 10:02 a.m .: A video of the "Jewish Forum" shows what work policemen are currently doing at the Corona demos , which is currently very popular on the Internet. Scenes from a Corona demo on May 9th in Berlin can be seen - and particularly prominently an obvious conspiracy theory * supporter who is having a dispute with a police officer.

Speaking loudly and gesticulating wildly, the man accuses the police officer of “wanting to put fascism in power” and continues: “There is also a deep state in Moscow . And frankly, things are happening in this world, you can not imagine. "The policeman is obviously in the mood and accepts the" line of argument "of the demonstrator:" But then you can not change anything - if even Putin * is a puppet, ”he replies.

Corona demo in Berlin: policeman meets conspiracy theorist - video makes people laugh on the web

In the further course of the dispute, one might think that the demonstrator is just having fun with the police officer - after all, he smiles when he says: "No, no. You don't know who is behind us. You can believe it ... the military. Q. We are many, we do not forget. And if you don't stop now, you will be considered an accomplice. "

“Q” or “Qanon” stands for a person or a group that spreads right-wing conspiracy theories in part on the Internet. The policeman imagines himself in the world of  "Spaceship Enterprise" and asks: "Who is behind you? Q? This almighty being? From 'Next Generation'? ”-“ Yes, exactly!

Either way, this Corona demo dialogue currently provides comments on YouTube like this one: "The policeman who takes the guy apart - Chapeau !!!" The demonstrators also threatened the policemen with being brought before a military court as can be seen in the further course of the video.

Corona demos in Germany: Protection of the Constitution warns of "radicalization like in the refugee crisis"

Update of May 18, 8:10 a.m .: According to the protection of the constitution, the right-wing extremist scene senses opportunities for a coup in the Corona crisis . The President of the Thuringian Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Stephan Kramer, told the Handelsblatt (Monday edition) that activists see the extraordinary situation as an "opportunity for the breakdown of globalized liberalism and democracy".

Protection of the Constitution: Right-wing extremist parties try to undermine corona protests

Overall, the scene is currently becoming more active in relation to the topic of corona virus , he reported. "Until now, activities in social networks were largely limited to criticism of the federal government or state institutions, blaming the corona pandemic for foreigners, primarily Asians, and the abolition of liberal democratic values in our state, but now there are clearly more concrete approaches for a nationalistic -national revolution recognizable, “said Kramer.

This means that right-wing extremist parties such as the NPD, The Right or The Third Way, in particular , tried to use the pretext of the demonstrations against the corona restrictions to gain a broader connection to society . In isolated cases, targeted attacks and attacks to further weaken the system are discussed, says Kramer. So far, however, it has only been possible to mobilize a limited group of participants.

Corona demos in Germany: constitutional protection observes extremists

According to the Thuringian President for the Protection of the Constitution, the AfD is also in the process of making use of the corona topic by calling for walks and similar meetings. According to him, the domestic secret service places a special focus on the attempts by extremists to date to undermine and instrumentalize legitimate civil protests. "I expressly share my concern that there is a risk that we could experience an analogous development and the associated radicalization  that we experienced in the so-called refugee crisis.

Update from May 17, 8:42 p.m .:  Bavaria's  Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU)  has drawn a positive balance to the police operations in the Bavaria-wide demonstrations against the Corona requirements. The policemen's prudent actions had made a significant contribution to "ensuring that the right to freedom of assembly and protection against corona infections could be reconciled in the best possible way," said Herrmann, according to a statement on Sunday in Munich.

“The majority of the demonstrators were reasonable and kept the minimum distances. I expressly thank you for this, ”said the Interior Minister, according to the announcement. The police have acted consistently against inconsiderate or rioters and have initiated appropriate criminal and administrative fine proceedings.

Corona demos in Germany: Demos also on Sunday - Knobloch sees "open hatred of Jews"

Update of May 17, 7:50 p.m .: The protests against the corona measures of German politics continued on Sunday . According to police in Schwerin, more than 250 people have demonstrated against the corona restrictions. The demonstrators came together near the castle under the motto "Coronapanik eats Basic Law".

Among other things, the posters read demands such as "end paternalism" and "fundamental rights immediately back". According to police, another 400 people have gathered outside the area blocked off for the demonstration. There were initially no incidents .

Meanwhile, Charlotte Knobloch , President of the Jewish Community in Munich and Upper Bavaria, is horrified by the extent of hatred in demos against corona politics. "Under the guise of political protest, conspiracy theories and partly open hatred of Jews were spread in large German cities," she said on Sunday. “I am very concerned about how the hatred that has been brewing on the Internet for years is being carried out on the street in a big way. Terrifying extremism literally spreads in our midst. ”

Corona protests in Germany: constitutional protection in concern

Update of May 17, 8:45 a.m .: After the numerous nationwide protests against corona requirements on Saturday,  Thomas Haldenwang , President of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, is very concerned about the prevailing images in the demonstrations. In the Welt am Sonntag , he said: "There is a risk that right-wing extremists will use their enemy images and state-destroying goals to lead the Corona demonstrations, which are currently being carried out by citizens who are in line with the constitution ." According to the BKA, there are still no findings about a coordinated infiltration of the very heterogeneous protests.

In order to prevent right-wing extremists from setting the tone, quick action in politics is required - because numerous people were worried about their livelihoods, stressed Federal Interior Minister Horst Seehofer (CSU) in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung.

Corona demonstrations in Saxony: Prime Minister Kretschmer (CDU) is insulted

Michael Kretschmer (CDU) , Saxony's prime minister, warns in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung against a blanket conviction of demonstrators . He posts a video on Twitter that shows him in exchange with demonstrators.

It is important to me to hear people's opinions, arguments & concerns. We can talk about everything and also improve things. This requires a reasonable #discussion culture & then we can make it through this crisis together. (SK) # en routeforsaxony #saxony pic.twitter.com/wBIIN0LkxU

- Michael Kretschmer (@MPKretschmer) May 16, 2020

He also believes that a good culture of discussion can also "make sense of the crisis". A video that ARD journalist Matthias Meisner posts shows how much unreasonableness pounded him :

#Kretschmer, piss off! "," #Corona - the lie of the century "- Saxony's Prime Minister in Saxony's Great Garden sought conversation with corona deniers today and was badly insulted. What he was up to in this Pegida environment remains puzzling (via @Pixel_Roulette) pic.twitter.com/6Qckn8p2rK

- Matthias Meisner (@MatthiasMeisner) May 16, 2020

In it you can clearly hear how a man calls "Kretschmer, piss off", another key word of "Corona as lie of the century" repeated several times. For his discussion in this environment, Kretschmer also received criticism on Twitter.

Kretschmer himself caused a stir on Sunday with considerations for further easing. Bavaria is meanwhile tightening its upper limit for new coronavirus infections.

Corona protests: stricter measures and more counter-demonstrators

Update from May 16, 9:24 pm: Several thousand people gathered again in numerous German cities on Saturday to demonstrate against the coronavirus restrictions . In most cities, this time there were stricter measures. Many demos were only allowed with a limited number of people. Since more demonstrators came almost everywhere, numerous people came together outside the designated areas. Overall, it was largely quiet on Saturday.

But there were riots in Hamburg. There, several hundred people demonstrate against supporters of conspiracy theories. They fought verbally and fought with demonstrators who protested the state's corona protection measures. At least one person was slightly injured in a clash, the police confirmed. The situation service spoke of a total of around 400 left and right-wing demonstrators on the square. 200 to 300 demonstrators carried banners such as "conspiracy theories endanger your health" and "stop right-wing agitation". They also shouted at the Rathausmarkt: "There is no right to Nazi propaganda".

Corona protests on Saturday: ZDF camera team is pressed - tear gas and arrests in Hamburg

Update 7.15 p.m .: At a corona demo in Berlin, a protester loudly announces conspiracy theories. But then a policeman picks up - and completely upsets the man. Apparently, the corona protester had named Russian President Vladimir Putin as the only "free leader" of a state. Thereupon the police officer wanted to have explained how it came to exit restrictions in Russia.

The protester initially had no answer. But then decided on a "deep state" in Russia. "You will be considered an accomplice," the man accused the policeman.

Coronavirus: Saxony's Prime Minister Kretschmer faces the demonstrators

Update 6.46pm : In Saxony, Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) answered the questions and allegations of the opponents of the measures at a Dresden Corona demo on Saturday . In the afternoon, the 45-year-old, accompanied by fewer employees, came to the Great Garden by bicycle, where up to 200 people had already gathered on the weekends to protest against the Corona restrictions. This time there were significantly more. The visit was spontaneous and was therefore not announced beforehand, the state chancellery said.

Kretschmer had to face numerous critical questions. Again and again, the immediate lifting of all restrictions in the corona crisis was demanded. Some interviewees denied the existence of the virus and accused politicians of just wanting to scare them with a "corona lie". In conversation with Kretschmer, a woman saw “dark forces” at work. Several people expressed concern about a mandatory vaccination requirement.

Kretschmer stayed on site for about an hour and a half. Some participants became verbally aggressive, but many paid him respect for his performance, some even applauded.

Coronavirus demo in Hamburg: police separate left and right with tear gas

Update 6:11 p.m .: The Corona demonstrations on Saturday have so far been largely quiet in most cities. In Hamburg, however, the police had to crack down on tear gas. That reports Bild.de.

Accordingly, around 800 protesters from the left and right spectrum clashed in the Hanseatic city on the edge of the 50 announced Corona demos . The police kept tear gas apart from the demonstrators. Several protesters were arrested.

Update from May 16, 5:22 pm: At the Corona demonstration on Saturday in Halle (Saxony-Anhalt), a ZDF camera team was pressed. The team wanted to take pictures near a protester's car. As part of the Corona event, two bodily harm offenses were reported and three reports of insult were recorded.

The Corona measures were also demonstrated in Hesse . In Frankfurt, in particular, hundreds of counter-demonstrators had formed, accusing the Corona demo organizers of "Nazi propaganda". The police found it difficult to distinguish the different groups of several hundred people in the city center. A total of around 1,500 demonstrators from both sides were on the move, said a police spokesman. A very communicative approach was chosen and no coercive measures had to be taken. A man was arrested after the Hitler salute was shown.

Again thousands of people had gathered in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg. This time, however, only 5000 participants were allowed to demonstrate against the coronavirus restrictions on the Cannstatter Wasen . As in the Bavarian capital of Munich, numerous people gathered there outside the designated area. The police assigned them another area.

In Munich , those who were no longer allowed on Theresienwiese due to the maximum limit of 1,000 demonstrators were crowded close to the barriers.

Coronavirus: Demos on Saturday - at the same time four customer presentations on Alexanderplatz in Berlin

Update from May 16, 4:13 p.m .: Accompanied by around 1,000 police officers, dozens of people gathered in Berlin-Mitte on Saturday afternoon for various demonstrations. At the Alexanderplatz alone, four rallies were held at the same time, surrounded by police officers and a red and white ribbon. The officials made sure that there were no more than 50 demonstrators at a time. The distance of 1.50 meters was maintained within the fluttering belts.

But who are the organizers, "Resistance 2020" and Co.? Mid-conspiracy theories? Who really pulls strings.

Corona protests on Saturday: Hundreds of demonstrators outside the permitted area - police have to intervene

Update from May 16, 3:23 pm: At the  Corona demonstration in Munich, the approved number of 1,000 people was reached shortly before the start of the event. On Saturday afternoon, the police no longer let anyone go to the cordoned-off area on Theresienwiese. The unauthorized corona protesters were asked over the loudspeakers to go home. A speaker announced that she wanted to "stand here with 10,000 people next week".

Far more than the permitted 1,000 people had come. After the cordoned off area was filled, the police sent the waiting people from Theresienwiese. Hundreds then lined the sidewalks along the area. The police later began carrying corona protesters beyond the demonstration site. At first it remained peaceful.

The Corona protest on Saturday was also announced to 10,000 participants. The city of Munich had approved the demonstration subject to compliance with the minimum distance and limited to 1000 participants. The demonstration time is set at two hours. The police are on the premises with numerous officers and are clearly visible.

Corona protests on Saturday: technology trucks for Stuttgart demo lit at night

Update of May 16, 11:22: Even before the planned large Corona - demonstrations , there was an incident. In Stuttgart , strangers lit three trucks on Saturday night . "On the transporter vehicles, objects were planned for a demonstration at Cannstatter Wasen today," said the Stuttgart police. Accordingly, there were two trucks and a speaker car. According to a report from the picture , the trucks were not yet loaded at the time of the fire.

Four masked people are said to have started the fire, which is said to have caused damage of EUR 70,000 , the report said, citing an eyewitness.

Corona protests: Stuttgart demo was registered for 500,000 people - court rejects urgent application

Update from May 15, 7:35 p.m .: The Stuttgart administrative court recently rejected an urgent request against conditions for the announced demonstration against the Corona measures on Saturday. As the court announced on Friday evening, both the limitation of the number of participants to 5000 people and a protective mask obligation of the demo participants were legal

The state capital of Baden-Württemberg had previously tightened the demo requirements of the protest against the current restrictions on the grounds of the Cannstatter Wasen. The number of participants was limited, and the city also demanded 500 folders , which are also required to wear a mouth-and-nose cover, since these must inevitably be less than the required minimum distance.

Corona demo: Söder recommends distance to conspiracy theorists

Update of May 15, 12:53 p.m .:  CSU boss Markus Söder has called on concerned citizens to clearly distance themselves from conspiracy theorists and extremists in demonstrations against the corona measures. Of course it was okay if there was criticism and of course the measures had to be explained, said Söder on Friday to journalists in Berlin. However, the AfD and other right-wing groups tried to capture understandable questions from the citizens. Politicians must therefore position themselves clearly against conspiracy theorists. "We can't make the same mistake we made at Pegida in the beginning."

In 2015 it was said that more understanding was needed, said Söder. Then it turned out who the spokesmen were, he said, referring to the Islam and xenophobic Pegida movement. Even today, people who have understandable questions should not allow themselves to be abused by the controlled protests with their hate speech. Posters with the inscription "Merkel has to go" bear the clear handwriting of the AfD and other legal groups.

Corona demo: 500,000 people were announced in Stuttgart

Update of May 15, 4:07 p.m .: Numerous people are again expected to controversial demonstrations against the Corona measures in several German cities on Saturday. In Stuttgart, up to 5000 people can gather at a registered rally, as the city announced on Friday.

The Corona demonstration in Stuttgart was originally registered for half a million participants. However, the city limited the number of participants allowed to "5000 considering infection protection and freedom of assembly".

Corona demos: New protests on Saturday - President Steinmeier's sentence is likely to spur

Original article from May 15:

Munich - Thousands of people are expected again on Germany's streets on Saturday. They demonstrate against the restrictions in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic * . The measures against Sars-CoV-2 are a political balancing act, because the restrictions on fundamental rights must be well explained. An overwhelming majority abides by the Coronavirus * measures . However, a number of people that cannot be ignored are already gathering again and again from a wide variety of motifs. People who fear for their fundamental rights protest with those who broaden their personal interpretation of fundamental rights, with those who promote conspiracy theories and with representatives of the radical right and left.

Coronavirus: hygiene demonstrators in Munich cough on bystanders

Last but not least, demonstrators came under criticism because Corona * demo participants attacked camera teams from ARD and ZDF in Berlin. Police officers were attacked in Pirna, Saxony. In the Bavarian capital of Munich, passers-by were insulted and coughed up by the protesters.

Due to multiple inquiries - even today with a demo against # Corona measures in #Pirna (1/3) pic.twitter.com/lobo4q8Ph8

- Franziska Klemenz (@FreieReporterin) May 13, 2020

In the midst of the Coronavirus * crisis, outraged speeches patter down German stages. A crude thicket of obscurities: Then there is talk of mouth protection as a symbol of a muzzle, of state-prescribed forced vaccination, of Merkel's dictatorship or the abolition of the Basic Law. Bill Gates is stylized as a super villain for his commitment to global health care. These are consistently false claims and completely unfounded theses.

Corona demos in Germany: "By participating, you legitimize conspiracy ideologies"

So are only conspiracy theorists on the move in the Corona demos * ? Political scientist Natascha Strobl has a hard time estimating who exactly is there. "But by participating, you legitimize conspiracy ideologies," she says. In addition, the demo participants ignored the danger of the virus, especially for the elderly and the sick. "There's a lot of selfishness and narcissism in it."

Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg Winfried Kretschmann has shown alarm at the risk of infection during protests against the Corona measures . "I am extremely worried about these demonstrations," said the Green Party politician in Stuttgart on Tuesday. His counterpart from Saxony Michael Kretschmer (CDU), on the other hand, shows understanding of the irritation of the population in connection with the Corona rules . The rules were not always clear enough, said Kretschmer of the "Sächsische Zeitung" on Thursday.

Corona virus: "Mouthguard instead of aluminum hat", President Steinmeier appeals to the citizens

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has appealed to the common sense of the public in view of the spread of conspiracy theories. His hope was that "we will continue to focus on facts and figures," said Steinmeier on Thursday. When visiting a new Corona emergency clinic in Berlin, Steinmeier said that he himself was a medical layperson. "Nevertheless, I dare to say that from the point of view of virus protection, the sometimes uncomfortable and annoying mouthguard is more recommendable than the aluminum hat." However, he emphasized that democracy needs criticism and lives from a critical public.

The corona virus is apparently also transmitted via aerosols - which would lead the distance rule to absurdity.
