Following Abu Mazen's declaration of renunciation of the agreements with Israel and the US, Palestinian officials make it clear that the authority does not intend to encourage violence or terrorism

Senior Palestinian officials have sent official messages to the top of the Israeli security establishment, saying that despite the declarations by Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas regarding the cancellation of agreements with Israel, they do not intend to be drawn into violence.

Abbas: Israel says 'Take the Triangle and Ahmed Tibi'

This week, Abu Mazen announced that the PLO and the PA have withdrawn from all agreements with Israel and the United States, including all the commitments and including the security agreements.

"The Palestinians have been adhering to the policy of non-violent popular struggle that President Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen; DS) has outlined since he was elected to office," a Palestinian official told Israel Today.

• Palestinian officials: Abu Mazen declares cancellation of agreements with Israel - declarative only

• Hamas: To translate Abu Mazen's statement into actions

• Abu Mazen's statement: Who is afraid of violating agreements?

• The timing of Abu Mazen's announcement of cancellation of the agreements is not accidental

This week, Palestinian officials told "Israel Today" that Abu Mazen's declaration is purely declarative, and there is no ambition to withdraw from the Oslo Accords. According to them, Abu Mazen cannot make a clear decision to withdraw from these agreements and bring about the dissolution of the PA, because they are enshrined in the Palestinian constitution. To this end, the Palestinian parliament that does not actually exist must be convened and amendments made to the constitution.

They also said that Abu Mazen could issue orders for the temporary directive and declare a minimum of all cooperation with Israel, even at the level of coordination and security cooperation. But in fact, they say, this is the conduct on the ground now.
