(CNN Spanish) -  Some businesses in Puerto Rico will start reopening starting Monday, May 25 with a gradual scheme that depends on the surface and capacity of the premises, the merchandise or services they sell and whether they are open or closed, according to the plan that Governor Wanda Vázquez announced this Thursday.

The beaches, however, will only be open for sports or recreational activities and not for bathers. Spas will not be opened and bathers will not be allowed for socialization and grouping purposes. The use of beaches, reserves and golf courses is strictly allowed for exercise. Only runners, walkers, cyclists, surfers, sailing and rowing athletes, paddle tennis and golfers will be allowed, Vázquez said.

The guidelines for the release of the paralysis caused by the covid-19 pandemic foresee that the closed-format shopping centers will begin on Tuesday 26 training, training and preparation tasks for employees and tenants to receive the public again.

However, these centers will only be able to resume operations from June 8, from 9 AM to 5 PM, under strict compliance with prevention measures such as the use of masks and physical distancing. The maximum occupancy will be at the rate of one person for every 30 square meters.

For their part, open-format shopping centers can only operate with 50% of their capacity. Laundry, hardware, travel agencies, pet care and beauty salons may also reopen.

Cinemas, play areas, and valet parking may not operate, and clothing and shoe stores may not allow customers to try on clothing or other items.

Car dealerships may operate from Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM by appointment and may not exceed 50% of their capacity for customers.

Vázquez reported that the curfew will remain in effect until June 15 from 7 PM to 5 AM

In early May, the government of Puerto Rico had already authorized to begin a first phase of reopening the economy, including financial institutions, construction sectors, and businesses such as hardware stores, car maintenance services, and medical and legal offices.

When the first positive cases of coronavirus were registered on the island in mid-March, the authorities decreed a quarantine and a curfew as a measure to prevent the increase in infections.

As of this Thursday, the Puerto Rico Department of Health had confirmed 2,913 positive cases for the coronavirus and 126 deaths.
