Syria's permanent representative to the United Nations, Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari, stressed the importance of activating the set of tools and means owned by the United Nations in the field of maintaining international peace and security, free from double standards and politicization.

Al-Jaafari pointed out during the informal consultations session held by the United Nations General Assembly today via video to discuss the draft global declaration on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations that any process to develop the tools of the United Nations must be consistent with the provisions of the Charter and within the governmental nature of the United Nations.

Al-Jaafari indicated the importance of reaffirming commitment to the main principles of the Charter, foremost of which is equality of rights and sovereignty for all nations and the preservation of their political independence and territorial integrity and the right of peoples to self-determination, stressing that the commemoration of this anniversary is an occasion to activate the tools of international action in a manner that ensures addressing the phenomenon of inequality and selectivity and preventing the outbreak of armed conflicts Combating terrorism, climate change and health pandemics is the latest challenge facing our world.

Syria's permanent delegate to the United Nations said that the reform efforts that take place within the framework of the United Nations and its various bodies must be subject to the provisions of the Charter and within clear mandates set by member states and that they are not the subject of initiatives launched by the organization's Secretariat without commission or coordination with the governments of member states, expressing Syria's support To the slogan "No one is left behind" in the field of achieving the sustainable development goals, especially for developing countries and least developed countries.

Al-Jaafari stressed that the peoples of the world are looking forward today to the governments of the member states to exercise the utmost responsibility in achieving global collective solidarity to confront the pandemic of the emerging Corona virus and at the same time in ensuring commitment to the true spirit that led the efforts of the founders of this organization 75 years ago and thus victory over disappointments and challenges through Initial collective action diplomacy that rejects populism, protectionism, narrow interests and unilateral actions that violate the most important principles of the Charter, which is global solidarity.
