They were able to top the already good result of the previous year: For the nationwide cell phone donation campaign of the German Kolping Society in cooperation with Missio Aachen and Munich, the Kolping family Gilching had asked the citizens for the second year in a row to donate their cell phones that are no longer used - with success.

Gilching - "We are pleased that in March and April, despite the difficult time with the known restrictions associated with the corona pandemic, we are collecting a total of 410 old cell phones and smartphones in Gilching and the first year's result - with 333 cell phones - by almost 25 percent were able to increase ”, said the chairman of the Kolping Family, Jürgen Schulz, when the devices were handed over to Missio Munich. "Our thanks go to all donors, of course, but at the same time also to the employees in the town hall of the municipality, in the active park and in the pharmacies of Dr. Hartmann, in the Edeka store, the Shell petrol station and in the hobby country, which were very cooperative with our collection points in our campaign, ”emphasized Schulz.

The donated cell phones are now recycled and processed to recover the valuable raw materials they contain. Because these are often mined under inhumane conditions in the Congo. “The people who get these substances out of the ground are often subjected to the worst violence. Many people are therefore fleeing or trying to flee, ”the Gilching Kolping Family wrote in their press release.

Part of the proceeds from the cell phone collection will go to Missio and the Kolping Society Germany in equal parts. The Kolping Society supports the fight against the causes of flight with its share; Missio finances aid projects in the Congo with its share. The carrier and operator of the mobile phone return system "Mobile-Box" for this campaign is the company Schumacher, from Pidoll GbR in Cologne.
