Distance, but also decency rules

“97 percent of our guests are wonderful,” says Till Weiß, who runs the “Augustiner am Wörthsee” with his wife Pamela. The remaining three percent, however, have been so mistaken in the past few days that White went public with the incidents on Friday.

Steinebach - The beer gardens have been open again for a week - under difficult corona conditions. "We thought a lot about making the guests as beautiful as possible," says Till Weiß. Nevertheless, the host and his staff have to listen to a lot of stupid sayings. White has now cleared his Facebook page.

Free of the liver, he lists the insolence of his guests: "I am mask-free, my ancestors heard it all here" is one example. Or: "How, only two households at one table? (...) You don't go out for that. You can take a look at me ... “Others have little understanding for the calculation of one euro for a hygiene blanket. "I don't understand that now." Or that they have to provide their contact details: "Are we with the Stasi or what?" There are also discussions about distance rules at the table. And guests “who can be asked five times to leave at 8:00 pm”.

"We have a lot of great guests who motivate us, who support us and who are just as friends," writes Weiß. “But sometimes the remaining three percent are really criminal. We will no longer accept this in the long run, because it is our goal to reach positive people who stand for cooperation. ”

Till Weiß is happy that he can manage the Augustiner beer garden again. But the effort is high, with falling revenues. He had to reduce the number of outside seats from 300 to 140. The team came up with a hygiene concept and redesigned the entrance. And Till Weiß bought another megaphone: every half hour he recalls the distance rules by sound recording.

“Everyone knows that only two households are allowed at the table. Nevertheless, the people stand in front of you and lie to us, ”says Weiß angrily in conversation with the Starnberg Mercury. "They are playing with our existence." The costs for a hygienic cover were based on an agreement. “We innkeepers at Lake Wörth have agreed on this fee,” explains Weiß. Because the guests receive disinfectants and masks if necessary, the tables are disinfected after every change, the toilet every hour.

White doesn't want the work to be stressful for his staff, "nobody deserves that," he says. His employees are the most important thing for him. "There are rules for distance, but there are also rules of decency." White takes the requirements for the catering trade very seriously. "When I hear that there are ten people sitting in some mountain huts, I get the crisis," he complains. And emphasizes that he finds the working conditions quite acceptable "if they help the virus to spread more slowly". It remains tough nonetheless: 68 weddings planned in August were canceled this year, "that is a loss of one million euros in sales".

The debate is hot on Augustiner's Facebook page. There is a great lack of understanding for the ignorant, no matter where they come from. The tenor is: “Hold on, you do it great.” Till and Pamela Weiß are happy about the praise. "We got married here in the Augustinian, and we want to die here too, in a figurative sense," says Till Weiß and then laughs.
