After a hot week - a sharp drop in temperatures is expected over the weekend and a chance of a brief rain on Sunday. • And how does all this happen? Gift from Eastern Europe • All details

After a week when the temperatures soared to around the 40s in most parts of the country, today (Friday) the day will be partly cloudy and there will be a significant drop in temperatures and rise in humidity. However, in the mountains and inland it will still be slightly warmer than usual.

Tomorrow (Saturday) will be partly cloudy and there will be another significant drop in temperatures, which will be normal for the season. In the north there may be light rain.

Sunday will be partly cloudy, in the north of the country and in its center, local rain is expected and there may be some thunderstorms. In the northern Negev there may be light rain. In the Jordan Valley, the Judean Desert and the Dead Sea, there is a slight fear of flooding. There will be a further drop in temperatures and will be lower than usual for the season.

How does all this happen? We are still in the spring, and a cold block of air from the Eastern European region on its way to the eastern Mediterranean is expected to pass us. Waiting from Eastern Europe is expected to rain during Sunday through Monday morning, north and center. Monday will be partly cloudy to fine. Temperatures will rise, but they will still be lower than usual in the season. In the morning there may be drizzle in the north of the country.

Nahum Malik, a meteorologist forecaster, points out that "this is an unusual rain system for this period, and its scope is still unclear."
