99.4 percent of the new types of corona viruses are killed within a few seconds with short-wave, high-energy UVC radiation. This has been shown by tests carried out by Dr. Hönle AG has now carried out in Frankfurt.

Graefelfing - Employees of the Institute for Medical Virology at the University Hospital Frankfurt tested the radiation of coronaviruses with Dr. Hönle Stericube and Steriair series. "The grown and in Petri dishes viruses were irradiated in an S3 laboratory, which stands for security level 3, the second highest laboratory security level," says Dieter Stirner, sales manager at Dr. Hell. The grown corona viruses were "irradiated with the two techniques UVC discharge lamps and UV LED from different distances and lengths," explains Stirner. The overall kill rate achieved in the laboratory with both techniques was 99.4 percent. Almost all corona viruses could thus be deactivated and rendered harmless by UVC radiation. It always took just a few seconds - a great success in the fight against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which many experts had suspected and which has now been scientifically proven. The Gräfelfingen-based company had the tests carried out in Frankfurt, as capacities were still available at short notice in the laboratory there. There will soon be further trials at the Fraunhofer Institute.

The risk of infection can be minimized

However, the Frankfurt results already make it clear that UVC radiation can minimize the risk of infection with Covid-19 in the air or through surfaces - for example, if the virus is found on protective suits, books, teaching aids in schools and universities, glasses an optician, shoes and handbags in a store or on money. The UVC radiation also makes it possible to disinfect the air from waiting rooms, guest rooms, kitchens and classrooms, for example. The Dr. Hönle AG has therefore further modified its Stericube and Steriair device series for corona use. The devices that can be used for UVC radiation are, depending on the discharge or LED technology, device type and quantity, for 500 to a few thousand euros directly from Dr. Hell available.

The Dr. Hönle AG, based in Graefelfing, is one of the world's leading providers of industrial UV technology. The Gräfelfinger company develops, produces and sells UV / LED UV systems, UV lamps and UV measurement technology.
