"Michael Jordan lied blatantly in his documentary"

Sam Smith, a journalist very attached to the Bulls and author of one of the best-selling books on Michael Jordan, gives his opinion on The Last Dance.


The broadcast of The Last Dance , the documentary that ESPN has produced about Michael Jordan's career, continues to raise blisters. One of those who have opined on what was seen in the ten chapters has been Sam Smith , one of the journalists with the most information on that team.

Smith has worked in numerous media, his presence in the Chicago Tribune being the most important, and he was the author of the controversial book The Jordan Rules: The Inside Story Of A Turbulent Season With Michael Jordan And The Chicago Bulls , where the intimacies of the squad that won the 1991 Ring. 

In an intervention on Bonta, Steiny & Guru  ( 95.7 The Game ), Smith gave his opinion on the documentary. 

"There are several things in the documentary that, as far as I know, have either made them up or directly misrepresented them. They were not important things, but it sounded like these television movies that usually emphasize that they are based on real events. That is what has been, something based on a true story , "he said. He offered several examples , such as his comeback attempt for the 1998/99 season : "That was a complete and blatant lie from Michael . " He also mentioned the case of 'The Flu Game', which the preparer Tim Grover and Jordan himself revealed that it was not as it was told: "The pizza thing did not make any sense . " The main case is that of the second withdrawal : "There were a few more things, but above all the end is a blatant lie. He came back and then left when he shouldn't have, and do you intend to believe that he was forced to leave? Who force Jordan to do anything? The lie is obvious, but hey ... it's part of Michael's mystique"

Smith earned the animosity of Jordan and some of his peers for his confessions in the 90s, although he continues to be one of the sources with first-hand information on the best stage of basketball in the city of Chicago.
