The Minister of Action and Public Accounts, Gérald Darmanin, was elected this Saturday morning mayor of Tourcoing (North) by the city's municipal council, held behind closed doors but broadcast on social networks.
Gérald Darmanin, 37, from the Republican ranks, occupied this chair between 2014 and 2017 and signed up early in the campaign for his re-election. On March 15, his list won the first round with 60.9% of the vote.
On the strength of this excellent score, he intends to combine the two functions, thereby freeing himself from the unwritten rule, in force since 1997, which states that a minister cannot be the head of a local executive.
According to Franceinfo, the executive will formalize on Sunday the green light given to this double hat.
